Editor, Times-Union:

I met Rocky Goshert in the late 1980s. I was a young man out of college, and I wanted to be an Indiana state trooper. Rocky was assigned to Whitley County, which was my home county. I admired the way Rocky conducted himself as a trooper and a coach.

I was fortunate to make it as a trooper in 1990 and retired after 25 years of service. As a young trooper, my admiration for Rocky grew. He was my mentor. As troopers, we worked a lot of details together and I really admired his integrity and how he fairly dealt with people. I also had the pleasure to coach junior high football with Rocky for several years. He was very passionate about coaching. Rocky was a positive role model for all the players he coached. To this day he remains a positive role model for all the kids.

In 2001, Rocky retired from the Indiana State Police to pursue a second career with the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department. Rocky worked the road as a deputy, served as a resource officer, served as a road supervisor, then was elected twice to serve as sheriff. Rocky's passion to serve still continues.

On May 8, I am asking the voters of Kosciusko County to vote for William "Rocky" Goshert.
