Life often presents us with very important decisions.

If the roof of your home has been severely damaged by a violent storm, would you rely on your relatively inexperienced, young and well-meaning neighbor to complete the repairs, or would you seek out the best available local craftsman, who has years of roofing experience and a good business reputation in the community?

Simple answer: the experienced roofer.

If your septic tank or sewer line has been crushed, resulting in your basement or crawl space being filled with “stuff,” would you and your spouse feel confident in having a friend with a set of wrenches, but no real plumbing experience, tackle that repair, or would you again seek out the best and most experienced plumber in the area to solve this very difficult and demanding job?

Again, simple answer: the experienced plumber.

On May 8, 2018, there will be a primary election to select the Republican nominee for sheriff of Kosciusko County. That selection will be of very great importance to all of the residents of the county as it pertains to the safety and security of our families and friends. As a community, the choice is as important as the damaged roof or septic might be to the individual. Much like the roofer or plumber, the best "solution" will require the choice of someone who possesses both the necessary skills and experience to complete the task.

That would include, not only road patrol experience, but also skills in employee management, the budget process, jail and inmate management and health care, running the work release center, providing service and security for the courts and county offices, and establishing and maintaining interdepartmental programs that address the ever-changing needs of our community. While there are several dedicated and well-meaning candidates for this position, only one currently possesses all of the necessary skills and experience to do the job — to get the job done. No additional training necessary. No loss of time in getting up to speed. No leaks in the roof and no mess in the basement. That person is Sheriff William "Rocky" Goshert. The experienced one.

The decision is important to all of us. Make the right choice for a qualified and proven leader. Vote William "Rocky" Goshert for sheriff.
