“(Cody) has a really competitive attitude,” said Warsaw coach Mike Hepler. “We’ve never faced anyone like Bible before. He comes out and mixes up his pitches well.”
Bible struck out four batters en route to the victory for Northridge (6-3, 3-2 NLC). In the batter’s box, he was 5 for 5 and drove in four RBIs, including the bomb he hit to centerfield during the third inning.
Warsaw (2-8, 0-5 NLC) got off to a slow start on defense in the first inning. The game started off with an error in the infield, and by the third out, the Tigers tallied three more errors.
“It was just a bad start,” Hepler said. That was the point in the game where it felt like it got away from us.”
The Raiders took advantage of the mishaps and plated four runs in the inning, all with two outs.
Warsaw senior pitcher Michael Nunez came back out in the second inning and allowed only one base runner to get on and got three outs with no harm.
That didn’t last for long for the Tigers. Northridge came up to bat in the third and sophomore Nick Logan got on with a hit. Bible came up and connected on the home run to center to push the lead to 6-0.
The game was still in reach for Warsaw until they had to go to its bullpen in the sixth inning. The Tigers brought in two pitchers to get through the inning. Between seniors Matt Francis and Matt Shapiro, they allowed four walks and two runs to score.
In the seventh, Warsaw dug into its bullpen again, this time calling on three relievers to get three outs. The trio allowed seven runs on three hits and three walks.
“We dont try to complicate things,” Hepler said. “We expect you to throw strikes when you come in and let us try ot help you out, and we didn’t do that.”
The Tigers were able to push two runs across in the sixth inning. Senior Brendan Perry hit an RBI single in the frame and two hits in the contest.
Northridge tallied 10 hits in the game and was perfect in the field. Sophomore third baseman Davis Enfield made four nice plays at the hot corner to keep Tiger hitters from reaching.
“These kids are seasoned veterans,” Hepler said of the Raiders. “They’re good for a reason.”
After starting the season 2-1, The Tigers have dropped their last seven contests and are still searching for their first NLC win of the year.
Helper knows his team isn’t playing up to its potential and that there’s still a lot baseball left to be played.
“This is a talented team,” he said. “We’re just not clicking.”
