PLYMOUTH — Susan Ann Read, 88, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, April 23, 2018.

Born in Laketon on Sept. 12, 1929, Sue was the daughter of John H. and Marjory H. Ferry Frederick. She graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1947. After high school, Sue attended Indiana University Bloomington for two years before continuing her education at Indiana University South Bend.

Sue married Lester D. Read on March 27, 1949, in the Evangelical United Brethren Church, now Trinity United Methodist Church. The couple would make Plymouth their home and raise four children: Nancy, Steven, Jane and Jeffrey.

She worked for the family business, Plymouth Fertilizer Co., from 1949 to 2016.

Sue was a lifelong member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was very involved with various church activities, and was the organist, pianist and accompanist for church services for over 70 years.

Sue taught piano lessons for 32 years. She also played organ and piano for Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home and Van Gilder Funeral Home for over 50 years. Music meant so much to Sue that she accompanied almost all of her grandchildren on solos and musical ensembles, and encouraged every grandchild to take an interest in playing a musical instrument.

She was a Tri Kappa Member and past president of the associate chapter. She was the grand marshal for the 1995 Blueberry Festival Parade, walking the entire way in heels. Sue, alongside Jenny Greenlee, were the original coordinators of Meals on Wheels in Plymouth for 32 years, back when meals only cost 65 cents.
