Lester was born July 20, 1923, to Edwin and Ethel Johnson Robinson near Cromwell. One of five children, he was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dorothea and Frieda; and a brother, Bernard.
He is survived by a sister, Lois Proctor.
He was a graduate of Cromwell High School in the class of 1941. He married Joyce P. Miller of Cromwell on March 25, 1949. She preceded him in death on Aug. 6, 2017, after 68 years of marriage.
He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II with the 894th Tank Destroyer Battalion in North Africa and Italy, rising to the rank of technical sergeant. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in battle at Anzio, Italy, in 1944. A 60-year member of the American Legion, he served on the funeral honor guard into his late 80s.
Lester was a lifetime member of Cromwell United Methodist Church, a past master of Cromwell Masonic Lodge, and a member of Fort Wayne Scottish Rite and Mizpah Shrine.
He worked for 34 years at Cromwell Lumber Yard, retiring as manager in 1983. Joyce and Lester owned a farm, remodeled several houses and loved to take on projects. I.U. basketball was also a passion for Lester and he seldom missed a televised game.
To say they were very active in retirement would be an understatement. Their work ethic was legendary to all who knew them.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Lane and Jo Ann Robinson, Cromwell; a grandson and his wife, Seth Robinson and Dr. Fei Yang, Goshen; a granddaughter and her husband, Afton Robinson and Kevin Darrall, Indianapolis; and a great-granddaughter, Rei Amelia Robinson, Goshen.
A cremation committal will take place with Legacy Cremation and Remembrance Center, Ligonier.
A friends and family memorial service will be held in honor of Lester and Joyce Robinson at a later date, with burial to take place at Sparta Cemetery, Kimmell.
Yeager Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
