Lady Tigers Continue NLC Track & Field Dominance

The Lady Tigers, who have won 12 straight NLC championships, extended their NLC?meet win streak to 66 Tuesday night as they defeated Wawasee 101-26 and beat NorthWood 109-23.
NorthWood beat the Lady Warriors 73-59.
“It feels great,” said Davis, a 2008 WCHS graduate. “It’s an exciting time to be a Lady Tiger and to be a part of this.”
Davis has helped lead Warsaw to a 6-0 start in NLC competition and has the Lady Tigers eyeing another conference title.
“We’re taking girls out of events they are comfortable in and putting them in other events to see how deep our team goes,” she said. “We have to continue to challenge ourselves in practice and not just on meet days.”
Wawasee put together victories in the first two events on the track. The quartet of Bailey Mayhew, McKenzie Smith, Ella Beezley and Nadia Palacious claimed first place in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 10:33.85.
Hannah-Marie Lamle won the 100-meter hurdles after not practicing for over a week due to being in California with Wawasee’s super mileage team.
“We weren’t quite sure what to expect from her,” said Wawasee coach Doug Slabaugh. “Now she needs to get back in it and be ready to go in the next couple of weeks.”
Lamle tacked on second-place finishes in the 300-meter hurdles and in the long jump.
“I thought we had a good meet,” Slabaugh said. “Warsaw is a very strong team from top to bottom. We had a lot of personal records across the board, and we walk away tonight with our heads held high.”
From there, it was all Warsaw, as the Lady Tigers won the next 10 events.
The Lady Tigers had a mishap on the first leg of the 4x100-meter relay and were disqualified. Davis talked with her relay team afterward to remind them mistakes happen and this can be a good lesson to learn from and make sure these types of errors don’t happen again.
“Overall, it was perceived well,” she said.
Warsaw swept first through third place in the 1600, 3200 and high jump events. Taylor Gunter won the 3200-meter race handily. She crossed the line in 12:34.62, 16 seconds faster than second place.
Warsaw’s Emma Bohnenkamper won the 800-meter race with a time of 2:26.49, sixth tenths of a second ahead of teammate Mia Beckham.
The Lady Tigers and Lady Warriors finished first and second, respectively, in three field events. Caitlin Kehler won the pole vault for Warsaw with a height of 10 feet, 4 inches. Jada Parzygnot ended in second with a height of 8 feet, 6 inches.
“We are tweaking a few things with Jada in the pole vault,” said Slabaugh. “We need to get a few things fixed.”
Lynae Dawson tossed the discus 102 feet, 2 inches for first place for Warsaw. Wawasee’s Sara Pritchard had a distance of 101 feet, 9-1/2 inches to finish second.
Warsaw competes on Friday at the Princess Relays at Elkhart Central. Wawasee hosts Elkhart Memorial and Northridge on Tuesday for an NLC-dual meet.
