To the good people of Kosciusko County: We have a choice to make on May 8 regarding the election of our county sheriff. We have four candidates to choose from; all four have served the community in law enforcement with different levels of success. Their views vary, as does the direction of the agenda they support.

Let us agree that we need to move on, and not dwell in the past.

The role of sheriff has many responsibilities, far more than we will ever realize. It requires one person to be a business manager dealing with the operation of the county’s largest law enforcement agency, dealing with budgets, and personal and resource management. All of which add on to the daunting task of law enforcement, which is to serve and protect the community that we live in.

The job of sheriff requires a person with the highest level of professional experience, who has progressed up the ranks in law enforcement  during their career, who has had exposure to the many different areas of law enforcement, and who has the respect of those he will lead and serve with. The job of sheriff will require the candidate to be more than a person who fills your coffee cup, or buys you a doughnut to gain your vote. The right candidate will lead by example, set a standard for those to follow, and earn the respect of those involved in law enforcement  past and present by performing the duties as the sheriff of Kosciusko County.

Reviewing  the qualifications of all four candidates for sheriff of Kosciusko County, the field is quickly reduced to one: Sheriff William "Rocky" Goshert.

Rocky has served the state of Indiana and Kosciusko County with 38 years in law enforcement.

• 1975 graduate, Warsaw High School

• 1979 graduate, Hanover College, business administration

• 1980 graduate, Indiana State Police Academy

• Indiana State Police, master trooper

• ISP riot team

• ISP presidential security (Reagan)

• ISP governor security (Orr, O’Bannon, Bayh)

• Advance Accident Investigation School

• Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department corporal, resource officer WHS

• 2006 and 2010 Indiana Sheriff School

• Sheriff, Kosciusko County, 9½ years

As your sheriff, William "Rocky" Goshert has already enacted change within the department.

• Implementing programs that will have a positive effect on the citizens of the county such as the Jail Chemical Addiction Program (JACAP).

• Working to enhance community security within our schools and churches.

• Has volunteered countless hours coaching the kids of our community, outside of law enforcement.

I proudly support William "Rocky" Goshert for Kosciusko County Sheriff.
