SYRACUSE – The Wawasee boys track and field team hosted Northridge and Warsaw on Thursday evening in a Northern Lakes Conference meet. The Tigers defeated both teams, and the Raiders left town with a win over the Warriors.

Alijah Wade won the 100 and 200-meter dash events for Warsaw. Nolan Groninger finished first in the 400-meter race with a time of 55.60 seconds for the Tigers.

Lucas Howett had a first-place finish in the 3200-meter event for Warsaw with a time of 10:16.87. Teammate Taylor Mills finish second in the race. Howett ran a 4:51.10 in the 1600-meter race, which garnered a third-place finish.

In the hurdles, Eli Owen won the 300-meter race and tallied second in the 110-meter hurdles for the Tigers. John Culbertson ended in third during the 110-meter hurdles.

The 4x100 and 4x800-meter relays had first-place nods for Warsaw. In a close contest, the team of Mason Martz, Jayton Brock, Keagan Larsh and Owen ran a time of 45.70 seconds in the 4x100 event, just beating Wawasee, which had a time of 45.80 seconds.

The Tigers swept the high jump event. Connor Lennox (6 feet), Tyler Metzinger (5 feet, 10 inches) and Dane Stookey (5 feet, 8 inches) claimed the top-three spots for the team.

Hunter Metzger (11 feet, 6 inches) and Nick Bazzoni (11 feet, 6 inches) finished first and second in the pole vault, respectively. John Svinarich tossed the shot put 50 feet, 1/2 inch to capture first.

For Wawasee, Luke Griner crossed the finish line first in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:00.91. Eric Yankosky, Mark Miller, Michael Hammer and Griner finished first in the 4x400-meter relay. The Warriors’ 4x800-meter relay finished third.

Elisha Tipping launched the discus 151 feet, 6 inches to receive first place. He tallied second place in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 9 inches.

Wawasee competes in the Goshen Relays on Saturday. Warsaw is back in action on Saturday at the Southport Relays. Both meets begin at 9 a.m.
