AKRON – During its meeting Monday, the Tippecanoe Valley School Board heard a short presentation on the establishment of the Kurt Miller Ag Scholarship.

The scholarship honors the memory of the late Kurt Miller, who was a Tippecanoe Valley High School student and lost his life in a farm machinery accident on April 27, 2015.

Dale Miller, TVHS graduate and family friend, established the scholarship through the Kosciusko County Community Foundation. According to Dale Miller, they surpassed the $10,000 needed to start the endowment that will provide a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from TVHS who will be pursuing an agriculture-related degree at any college or university in the United States. To be eligible, a student must have participated in either 4-H or FFA. Financial need is not a factor to be used in consideration of candidates.

Applications for the Kurt Miller Ag Scholarship are being accepted through May 1.

Miller said that if they reach the $20,000 threshold in the fund, the $1,000 scholarship would continue indefinitely. He said there is a matching grant fund for up to $5,000 in place at this time.

Tippecanoe Valley Superintendent Brett Boggs said, “We want to be sure the public is informed of this new scholarship and how it will benefit TVHS students for years to come. We also trust that others will step forward to contribute to the endowment that Mr. Miller hopes to grow in the years to come.”
