SOUTH BEND – Grace College’s women’s golf team battled against a competitive field at the Pilot Spring Invitational over the weekend.

The Lady Lancers placed fifth out of 12 teams, powered by Lauren Keiser’s fifth-place showing at Blackthorn Golf Club.

The two-day event saw some of the best weather of the year so far on Friday, followed by brutal conditions on Saturday. Due to the forecast, the teams played 27 holes on Friday followed by nine holes on Saturday morning.

“Despite playing 27 holes in very nice weather, I think the girls will remember this for the toughest playing conditions they ever experienced,” said Grace head coach Denny Duncan. “Players were greeted Saturday with rain, wind and cold. So I was really pleased with our performance. We were able to hang with some of the best teams in the NAIA.”

Keiser and Anna Marshall both shot 81 in the first round to lead the Lady Lancers. Keiser continued her strong play in the cold, carding an 84 on Saturday to finish fifth overall out of 63 golfers.

Marshall finished with a two-day total of 169 to place 11th, and Sydney Abbott was next for Grace at 91-87. Kristin Holt produced a 93-91, and Libby Tully had a first-round 88.

The Lady Lancers’ next tournament is also the last home event. Grace hosts the Lancer Invitational at Stonehenge Golf Club on April 25.
