April 13, 2018 at 8:59 p.m.

NORTH MANCHESTER – A South Whitley man was arrested in North Manchester Wednesday on numerous charges after fleeing police in his vehicle and on foot.

At around 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, while working Operation Pull Over, North Manchester Police Department officer Devin Bechtold attempted to make a traffic stop near the intersection of North Sycamore and East Third streets. The driver of the vehicle – later identified as Wade A. Beck, 22, South Whitley – got out of the vehicle and ran east, according to a news release from NMPD.

Bechtold tried to find Beck. When Bechtold returned to the scene, the vehicle took off north on Sycamore Street at a high rate of speed, the release states.

In the 700 block of North Sycamore Street, Beck pulled into an alley and got out of the vehicle again. NMPD Chief Jim Kirk, Sgt. Nate Birch and K9 Strider, along with officers Brian Hammons and Isaac Adams, responded to the area.

Officers received a complaint from a woman who said a man, matching Beck’s description, entered her home without permission, saying he wanted to use the restroom. Officers found Beck on the roof and attempted to persuade him to come down. Beck ran across the roof and jumped and then took off again.

Beck was apprehended by Bechtold and Adams. He was charged with resisting law enforcement, resisting law enforcement with a motor vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, illegal possession of a syringe, possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, maintaining a common nuisance, residential entry, reckless driving and criminal mischief, according to the release.

He also was served a warrant for probation violation, maintaining a common nuisance, illegal possession of a syringe and possession of paraphernalia. He was cited for no proof of financial responsibility and failure to signal within 200 feet.

Wabash County Sheriff’s Department assisted the NMPD.
