Warsaw Opens Tennis Season At FW Canterbury

FORT WAYNE – The Warsaw Lady Tigers opened up their tennis season on Tuesday at Fort Wayne Canterbury. The Lady Cavaliers won 3-2 in a close match.

Liza Lewis won 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles match for Warsaw, securing the lone singles victory for the team.

The No. 1 doubles pair of Ella Knight and Alyssa Zellers won in three sets (1-6, 6-3, 7-5) to receive another point for the Lady Tigers.

In No. 3 singles action, Taylor Shoaf won the first set 6-2, but lost the next two sets to fall.

Warsaw will host Columbia City on Thursday for the team’s home opener.

Wawasee Loses To Westview In Tennis Action

SYRACUSE – Wawasee girls tennis lost 4-1 to Westview on Tuesday night.

The No. 2 doubles pair of Brianna Haessig and Molly Jones were the lone victors for the Lady Warriors (0-1). They dropped the first set 7-6, but came back and won the next two 6-2 and 6-2.

Kendra Doerr lost 7-5 and 6-4 at No. 1 singles for the team, playing in Wawasee’s closest contest. 

“Extremely competitive showing on all courts verse a tough Westview team,” said Wawasee coach Shane Staley.

The Lady Warriors are back on the court tonight against Goshen at home.

Warsaw Softball Loses To East Noble

KENDALLVILLE – The Warsaw Lady Tigers lost 12-2 in a softball contest against East Noble Tuesday night.

Warsaw (1-2) captured an early 2-0 lead in the game, but wouldn’t hold on to it for long. The Lady Knights (3-0) tallied four runs in the bottom of the inning and never looked back.

Katie Anderson tallied three hits for Warsaw. Courtney Chookie was the losing pitcher for the team, but struck out six batters and walked none.

Chookie helped her cause by hitting in the team’s two lone runs.

Warsaw plays tonight at Carroll. First pitch is set at 5:30 p.m.

Whitko Loses Extra Inning Battle To NorthWood

NAPPANEE – In a 10-inning thriller, Whitko softball lost 4-3 to NorthWood on Tuesday.

The Lady Panthers (3-1) were down to their last two innings without scoring, but had a rally and scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings to push the game in extra innings. 

NorthWood scored in the bottom of the tenth to have a walkoff victory.

In her first high school start, Augusta Garr pitched for the Lady Wildcats (2-1) with the help of Ellie Snep in relief.

Reannon Hopkins had two hits for Whitko. She had a double with an RBI. Garr hit a single that resulted in two RBI’s.

The Lady Wildcats play at West Noble tonight.

Whitko, Valley Compete In Track & Field

SOUTH WHITLEY – Whitko and Tippecanoe Valley boys and girls track and field teams competed alongside North Miami Tuesday night. Whitko won the boys meet with a team score of 92 and Valley won the girls with a score of 64.

Alex Wilson won three events for the Wildcats. He won the long jump, 100 and 200-meter dashes for Whitko. 

Shad Ebbinghouse won two races for Whitko. He earned first in the 110 and 300-meter hurdle events.

Bre Kern won the 100 and 200 meter sprints for the Lady Wildcats.

Jameson Baker won the shot put and discus field events for Tippecanoe Valley. Dakota Parker finished first in the 400-meter dash.

For the Valley girls, Hannah Gibbons (shot put), Cora Alber (discus), Caleigh Byrer (110 hurdles), Valeria Jimenez (400) and Gabby Olson (300 hurdles) were all winners.

Whitko will travel to Rochester on Thursday for a 5 p.m. contest. Valley travels to Manchester, first event begins at 5 p.m.

Manchester Girls Win Track Meet

NORTH MANCHESTER – The Manchester boys and girls track and field teams competed at home Tuesday night against Wabash and Rochester. Wabash won the boys meet and Manchester won the girls.

The Squires finished with 60 points. Isaiah Davis won the high jump with a height of six feet. Montgomery Pattison won the 110-meter hurdle race.

Trey Clark finished first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.30 seconds. Remington Trick tallied first in the long jump.

The 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay teams earned first-place nods for Manchester.

Katie Barker won the 100 and 300-meter hurdle events for the Lady Squires. Kailea Kerr won the 100 and 400-meter races. Gabby Brewer won the high jump and long jump events.

Emily Mize tossed the discus 91 feet, 7 inches to win the event. The 4x400-meter relay finished in first place.

Both track teams are back in action on Thursday at they host Tippecanoe Valley. First event begins at 5 p.m.

Whitko Golf Finishes Second At Columbia City

COLUMBIA CITY – The Whitko boys golf team finished second against Columbia City and Churubusco on Tuesday.

Whitko (1-1) shot a 217 and first-place Columbia City had a 171. Churubusco rounded out the scoring with a 239.

Kaleb Busz had a 45 to lead the Wildcats. Dale Reiff finished second for Whitko with a 56 and teammate Cade Bechtold was just behind him with a 57. 

Kylar Bryant had a 59 and Jonathan Strayer shot a 65.

Whitko is back on the course on Thursday as it hosts Southwood. Tee time is set for 4:30 p.m.

Manchester Girls Win Track Meet

NORTH MANCHESTER – The Manchester boys and girls track and field teams competed at home Tuesday night against Wabash and Rochester. Wabash won the boys meet and Manchester won the girls.

The Squires finished with 60 points. Isaiah Davis won the high jump with a height of six feet. Montgomery Pattison won the 110-meter hurdle race.

Trey Clark finished first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.30 seconds. Remington Trick tallied first in the long jump.

The 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay teams earned first-place nods for Manchester.

Katie Barker won the 100 and 300-meter hurdle events for the Lady Squires. Kailea Kerr won the 100 and 400-meter races. Gabby Brewer won the high jump and long jump events.

Emily Mize tossed the discus 91 feet, 7 inches to win the event. The 4x400-meter relay finished in first place.

Both track teams are back in action on Thursday at they host Tippecanoe Valley. First event begins at 5 p.m.

Whitko Golf Finishes Second At Columbia City

COLUMBIA CITY – The Whitko boys golf team finished second against Columbia City and Churubusco on Tuesday.

Whitko (1-1) shot a 217 and first-place Columbia City had a 171. Churubusco rounded out the scoring with a 239.

Kaleb Busz had a 45 to lead the Wildcats. Dale Reiff finished second for Whitko with a 56 and teammate Cade Bechtold was just behind him with a 57. 

Kylar Bryant had a 59 and Jonathan Strayer shot a 65.

Whitko is back on the course on Thursday as it hosts Southwood. Tee time is set for 4:30 p.m.
