Voirol Pitches Grace To Split With IWU

Voirol, a Wawasee High School grad, tossed a complete-game shutout, and his four-hitter included seven strikeouts in Grace’s 1-0 victory on the road.
The Wildcats (23-12, 9-4 Crossroads League) got revenge in the second game with a 14-2 win.
In the opener, Grace had no trouble getting on base. The Lancers (2-22, 2-8 CL) did struggle scoring, however.
Grace stranded six baserunners combined over the first three innings of the game, including a bases-loaded opportunity in the first inning.
The score remained tied through five innings as Voirol made quick work of IWU from the mound. The breakthrough for Grace came in the sixth inning.
Hunter Ackerman started Grace’s rally with a single. Two walks from David Anderson and Spencer Mason loaded the bases with one out. Jaron Mullett hit a ground ball to the left side of the infield, allowing Ackerman to score the game’s only run.
Voirol took care of the rest from the mound. He did not allow a Wildcat to reach base over the final three innings to secure his first career shutout. Voirol needed 102 pitches for his complete-game effort.
Ackerman finished 1 for 3 at the plate with a run and a stolen base, Houston Haney doubled, and Mullet was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
In the second game, IWU’s bats came to life. The Wildcats plated five runs in the second and fourth innings and had a run in five separate innings.
Grace’s only runs came in the top of the seventh. Anderson walked, and he moved to second after a Wildcat error. He then took third base and home on wild pitches for Grace’s first run.
Cameron Maxwell drove in Grace’s second run, singling with two outs to score Jordan Noska.
Mullett had a hit and a walk, and Ackerman and Maxwell also singled.
The Lancers will go for the series victory on Saturday with a single nine-inning game at Indiana Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
