Protecting Life

Editor, Times-Union:

Our organization was recently privileged to have Congressman Jim Banks visit our office and meet with some of our board members and supporters.  I found it rather humorous that when reporting on Congressman Bank’s activities that day, The Times-Union reporter chose to just mention that the Congressman “visited a local anti-abortion organization.”  The organization does have a name.  It’s Right to Life of North Central Indiana and while we do want to see fewer abortions, there is a lot more to our organization than the description, “anti-abortion.”

First of all, for those who may not be familiar with Right to Life of North Central Indiana (originally Kosciusko County Right to Life), we merged with Whitley County Right to Life in 2013 and also brought in 3 additional counties (Fulton, Wabash and Grant) to transition into a regional organization.  We are one of the few Right to Life groups in Indiana that cover more than one county.  A letter to the editor is not enough space to list all that we do, but here are a few highlights.

We partner with 3 pregnancy centers in north central Indiana:  Heartline Pregnancy Center in Warsaw, LIFE Center in Wabash, and Pregnancy Help Center in Marion.  All three centers provide free services to women experiencing unexpected pregnancies and their families.  These centers provide free pregnancy tests and two of the centers provide free ultrasounds. They also provide classes that help women and men become more confident parents and independent adults.  All three centers provide their services free of charge.  Right to Life covers the cost of much of their advertising and donates financially to each center.

We also educate and inform pastors to better minister to women and men who have experienced abortion to help them find the forgiveness and healing that God can give.  Right to Life encourages students to defend the pro-life position through National Pro-Life T-Shirt Day, partnering with area Students for Life groups, training workshops and taking students to the National March for Life in Washington, D.C in January each year.  Right to Life also partners with area organizations and churches to sponsor the Take a Break program that plans and coordinates events for children with special needs to give their caregivers a break and provide fun events for the children.

As our supporters know, Right to Life of North Central Indiana is so much more than “anti-abortion.”  We’re for celebrating life and helping people see that all human beings, whether born or unborn, are valuable and worth protecting.

Sincerely,

Dave Koontz
