KENDALLVILLE – The high temperatures weren't the only thing to scorch the field in Saturday's girls golf regional at Noble Hawk Golf Links.

Led by medalist Emma Schroeder's blazing round of 67 on the par-71 course, the Homestead Spartans fired a four-person team score of 296, beating runner-up DeKalb by 21 strokes on an unseasonably warm 90-degree fall day.

Fort Wayne Dwenger finished third with a 326, followed in the top 10 of the 18-team field by Penn (327), NorthWood (335), Northridge (345), Manchester (348), South Bend St. Joe (349), Angola (356) and Huntington North (357).

Warsaw finished 14th with a 373, while Lakeland Christian Academy's Abigail Fishel competed as an individual and carded a 93.

The top three teams, as well as the top five individuals not on an advancing team, qualified for the 36-hole state finals, which will be played Friday and Saturday at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel.

Advancing individuals included Northridge's Braedyn O'Dell and Penn's Lyvia Li with 73s, Bishop Luers' Madeleine Pape at 75, and Angola's Gabby Kelly and NorthWood's Mackenzie Weaver with 78s.

Along with Schroeder’s 67, Homestead’s championship score included Makenna Hostetler’s 75, Rylie Parker’s 76 and Sydney Rybolt’s 78.

Among the two local teams competing, the Manchester Lady Squires had two players turn in career-best scores – Kelsey Eichenauer with an 83, and Madyson Ulrey with an 86.

Other scores for Manchester were Samantha Kissel’s 89, Lydia Little’s 90 and Cora Barnett’s 106.

The Lady Squires finished the regular season with a 13-1 record, their only loss coming to Huntington North, and finished second in the sectional at Norwood, again falling short to the Lady Vikings.

“I’m so proud of our girls today,” said Manchester coach Josh Troyer. What a great finish to a season with high expectations. They battled through being expected to play well each night out.

“Kelsey Eichenauer and Madyson Ulrey both had their career-lows today, going along with a solid round from Samantha Kissel. Cora Barnett had a rough finish, but hit some of her best shots of the season today in a tough environment.

“I couldn’t be more proud of this team. I’m looking forward to getting back to work to prepare to continue taking steps forward next season.”

For the Warsaw Lady Tigers, who finished the Northern Lakes Conference season with a 5-2 record and a third-place finish in the NLC tournament, Delaney Wihebrink led the way Saturday a 92.

As has been the case, Warsaw’s scores were consistent, with Izzy Ray and Miriam Hagg carding 93s and Madelyn Ray a 95. Grayson Kilburn rounded out the Lady Tigers’ lineup with a 104.

Fishel, who advanced from the sectional at Stonehenge last week with a 90, shot 46 on the front Saturday and 47 on the back en route to her 93.
