Warsaw’s Buhrt, Britton Advance To NLC Doubles Title Match
DUNLAP – Warsaw’s Bailey Buhrt and Spencer Britton, the top seed at No. 1 doubles, advanced to the finals of the Northern Lakes Conference boys tennis tournament at Concord High School Thursday.
After the Tiger duo dropped the first set, they came back for a 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 win over Concord’s fourth-seeded team of Travis Herman and Cal Whitaker. Buhrt and Britton will face Jared Hoffman and Brent Mast of NorthWood for the conference title Saturday in Plymouth.
At No. 2 doubles, Warsaw’s Nolan Knight and Reuben Williams of Warsaw fell 6-2, 6-4 to NorthWood’s Trevor Klotz and Trajan Schwartz. The Tiger team will take on Drake Crowder and Tony Le of Goshen in the third-place match.
The Tigers’ Colton Lind lost his No. 1 singles semifinal 6-4, 6-2 to Will Boyer of Concord. Lind will face Wes Troyer of NorthWood in the third-place match.
Kyler Bartol will play for fifth place in No. 2 singles after his 6-1, 6-3 win over Elkhart Memorial’s Bradley Mendez. Bartol will be opposed by NorthWood’s Ben Vincent on Saturday.
Caleb Williams will also play in a fifth-place match after his 6-0, 6-0 victory over Memorial’s Rickey Hoover at No. 3 singles. Williams will play Plymouth’s Andy Rostron for the consolation round championship.
Wawasee did not win any matches in the consolation semifinals, and will play in seventh-place matches on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m.
Bules, Heckaman Win Title For Triton
KNOX – Triton’s No. 2 doubles team of Tyler Heckaman and Jared Bules won 6-0, 6-2 over Ethan Sanders and Devan Himes of Knox to claim the Hoosier North Athletic Conference boys tennis title at that position Thursday.
Knox won the remaining four matches to take the HNAC team title.
At No. 1 doubles, the Trojans’ Keygan Mosier and Chase Butler won the first set and forced a third-set tiebreaker before falling 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 to Knox’s Ethan Cooper and Clint Stacy.
The three singles matches were decided in straight sets.
Triton continues its postseason at the Bremen Sectional. Pairings will be announced Monday, and the tournament will begin Wednesday afternoon.
Squires Sweep Valley
AKRON – Manchester won four matches in straight sets and was forfeited a fifth in its 5-0 Three Rivers Conference boys tennis win at Tippecanoe Valley Thursday.
Luke Donathan beat Seth Hoffman in the minimum 12 games at No. 1 singles, and Spence Trick won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles over Eric Wright. Kyle Shepherd was credited with a win at the forfeited No. 3 singles match.
Logan Parrett and Parker Wagoner won 6-3, 6-3 over Garett Feldman and Payton Mills at No. 1 doubles. Kam Lester and Quinn Martin won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles over Jeremy Landis and Connor Frentzel.
Manchester (8-4 (4-2 TRC) has one more regular season match Monday, hosting Rochester. Valley (4-12, 1-5) will play in the Warsaw Sectional, with the draw Monday evening and the tournament beginning Wednesday.
