KCH?To Sponsor Freaky 5K

By Staff Report-

Kosciusko Commmunity Hospital has committed to be the title sponsor for the Third Annual Freaky 5K Family Halloween Run/Walk on Oct. 28 for the Cancer Care Fund.

The path will be from the K21 Health Pavilion, around the Lake City Greenway and finishing back near the KCH campus.

The CCF volunteers organize various events throughout the year – Cocktails on the Lake, the Steve Dodds’ Golf Fundraiser and the Annual Dinner/Dance and Auction.

“I thought that a 5K race would target a completely different group of people who may not know about the CCF, yet are passionate about supporting cancer-related fundraisers and who are avid runners.  What is unique about the CCF is that 100 percent of all net funds raised are used to financially assist cancer patients and their families, right here in our county. The K21 Health Foundation administers our fund at no cost, which means more funds go to our friends and neighbors that are in need,” Freaky 5K race director Ron Smock said.

“And to have The Lutheran Health Network/KCH get behind our cause and be the title sponsor is a big boost to our fundraiser. We want this to be a fun, family event and are hoping people will come appropriately dressed for Halloween. Costumes are definitely encouraged,” he said.

There are several ways to become involved: as a participant in the run/walk, a volunteer for the event or make a direct donation to the Cancer Care Fund.

All participants that pre-register will get a souvenir T-shirt. Participants can go online to the following sites for a link to pre-register: www.runsignup.com, www.runkra.com, www.cancercarefundkc.org or the Cancer Care Fund KC Facebook page.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the K21 Health Pavilion, 1515 Provident Court, Warsaw.

There will be a brief program at 9 a.m. and the race/walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. The race will be chip timed by the Kosciusko Runners Association.

To become a volunteer for the event or to get more information, contact Smock at [email protected] at 574-453-8588 or Cindy Knafel at [email protected].
