Triton Tennis Coach Gets 100th Victory
LAKEVILLE – Coach Allen Peckham recorded his 100th career boys tennis win Tuesday with Triton’s 4-1 Hoosier North Athletic Conference win at LaVille.
Triton’s Carter Kuntz won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles over LaVille’s Doug Cashen, and John Gardner won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles over Zach Rutherford. Trevor Miller took a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles over David Clayton.
The other Triton win came by forfeit at No. 2 doubles.
Now 8-6 overall and 4-1 in the conference, Triton hosts North Judson in conference play Thursday.
Squires Drop Conference Match
NORTH MANCHESTER – Kam Lester and Quinn Martin won a three-set match at No. 2 doubles for Manchester’s lone victory in a 4-1 Three Rivers Conference boys tennis loss to visiting Wabash Tuesday.
The other four matches were won by the Apaches in straight sets.
The Squires and Wabash split a pair of junior varsity singles matches, with Drake Hatfield winning for Manchester.
“We lost a couple 5-0 blow-outs to that team down south last season and I really feel like we (as a program) are starting to rebuild and close that gap,” head coach Eric Screeton said. “Wabash is the defending sectional champ and top team of our league, challenging them in some close sets should give us some confidence moving forward.”
Manchester will play fellow TRC school Whitko in a non-conference match Thursday.
