Mast Celebrated As NCCAA, Crossroads Player Of The Week

WINONA LAKE – Sophomore sensation Emily Mast was honored for the second straight week as the NCCAA National Player of the Week for Grace College’s women’s tennis team.

Additionally, Mast was named the Crossroads League Player of the Week for the Lady Lancers.

Mast had a perfect 6-0 week for Grace last week, winning every match on the road. She continued her undefeated season at No. 1 singles with three straight-set victories against Mt. Vernon Nazarene, Trine and St. Francis.

She won her matches by a combined score of 36-5 at No. 1 singles last week. Mast teamed up with Carrie Copeland for three wins at No. 1 doubles as well.



Swim Team Tryouts Thursday

Tryouts for the Warsaw Aquatic Club swim team will be held from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Warsaw Community High School pool. Kids aged 5 and up are eligible.

Swimmers must demonstrate the ability to swim from one end of the pool to the other, a distance of 25 yards. Times will be recorded to measure the swimmer’s progress during the season. Swimmers attending tryouts and registering on the team site at the event will be entered into a drawing to win one of five $20 certificates that will be applied as credit to their account.

A copy of the swimmer’s birth certificate is required by USA Swimming for registration. There is a $60 registration discount for swimmers on free and reduced lunches. WAC will need to verify eligibility with a copy of a Hoosier Healthwise insurance card, WIC card, or a letter from the school corporation verifying eligibility.

If the athlete isn’t sure swimming is for them, a $25 two-week trial is available from September 18-29.

Tony Elliott Foundation Hosting Golf Outing

The Tony Elliott Foundation announces a charity golf scramble Sept. 18 at  Tippecanoe Lake Country Club, Leesburg.

The cost to enter is $400 per foursome and will include the scramble, lunch, and beverage cart.  Awards will be given for first, second and third place. The event also includes a clubhouse cocktail reception and silent auction. Corporate sponsorships are also available.

The Tony Elliott Foundation is 501c3 nonprofit and 100 percent of all funds collected are disbursed back into the racing community. All proceeds from the golf outing will be used for the foundation’s mission of financially supporting worthy recipients in the racing community.

3-On-3 Tournament Benefits Whitko Boys Basketball

SOUTH WHITLEY – In conjunction with the South Whitley Fall Festival, the Whitko boys basketball program will host a 3-on-3 hoops tournament Saturday at the park in town.

There are four divisions; grades 3-5, 6-8, 9-12 and ages 18-plus. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with play beginning in the lower three divisions at 9:15. The adult division begins at 9:45. The entry fee is $5 per player or $20 per team.

In case of rain, the games will be moved to Whitko High School.

Don Dicken Tournament Saturday

The first Don Dicken Appreciation Tournament will be held Saturday at Rozella Ford Golf Club. Dicken has served the greater Warsaw golf community, especially the junior golf program, for more than 60 years.

Entry fee for the four-person scramble is $170, and food is included with entry. Hole sponsorships are $125, with proceeds from the sponsorships donated to Baker Youth Club.

Lady Vikings Hoops Fundraiser Scheduled For Sept. 19

SILVER LAKE – Tippecanoe Valley’s girls basketball team will host a fundraiser at The Igloo, 108. W. Main St. in Silver Lake, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 19.

The business will donate 20 percent of the proceeds to the team.
