Christopher Grimmett, 30, pleaded to one count of murder in connection with the death of Adalin Stamper on Nov. 10.
Under a plea agreement, Grimmett will receive 50 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections. Judge Michael Reed took the plea under advisement and set further proceedings for Oct. 5.
Grimmett also withdrew his earlier motion for a new attorney, saying he was satisfied his with attorney, Jay Rigdon.
The body of Adalin was found early Nov. 11 buried in the back yard at 1835 Sue Ave., Warsaw.
Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputies had been searching for Adalin since the day before she was found. The girl’s mother, Katie Stamper, had reported Adalin missing from her residence on Chapman Lake.
Katie had left Adalin with Grimmett, her then-boyfriend. Grimmett took the girl to his brother’s home on Sue Avenue to do laundry.
Officers met with Grimmett, who told them he had left the toddler with her maternal grandmother. Officers determined this was false by contacting the taxi driver that took Grimmett home. The driver told police he remembered seeing blood on Grimmett’s pants, according to court records.
Once inside the Sue Avenue residence, officers found a substantial amount of blood, an affidavit states.
Police say Grimmett confessed to killing Adalin and burying her in the back yard.
Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office determined the girl died from blunt force trauma.
No motive has been released by law enforcement.
