Born July 9, 1922, in Kenova, Wayne County, Ky., she was the daughter of Scott and Effie Burgett Hatten-
She grew up and attended schools in West Virginia before moving to Indiana. Jenny had worked at the Barbee Hotel and Playtime Products before being married to Franklin J. Grimes on April 19, 1942, at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church in Pierceton.
Franklin was drafted into World War II and was stationed in Ohio and then in Texas. Once in Texas, Jenny moved down to join him before he was transferred to Utah, where their oldest daughter, Carolyn, was born. Following the war, the family took a train back to Chicago and moved back to Pierceton.
Jenny was a homemaker and former employee of Lyall Electric, North Webster. She and her husband owned and operated Grimes Bait and Tackle, North Webster, and had been a devoted staff member and served as the corporation treasurer for the past 30 years at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home.
Jenny was an avid reader, well-noted cook, and crocheted for family and friends to counter the effects of her rheumatoid arthritis since the age of 33. She also had been a member of American Legion Auxiliary, Post 253, North Webster, since 1947.
Survivors include her children: Carolyn (Robert) Emmert, Branson, Mo.; Randy Grimes, Columbia City; and Amanda (Kent) DeKoninck, Greenwood; four grandchildren: Scott (Jill) Cripe, Fort Collins, Colo.; Shelly (Dan) Magnus, Chicago; Hillary (Pat) Zeid, Fort Wayne; and Morgan DeKoninck, Greenwood; five great-grandchildren: Caleb and Caitlin Cripe, Fort Collins; and Natalie, Elise and Audrey Magnus, Chicago; and a niece, Frani (Dick) Wells, North Webster.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1986; two sons, James Allen and Phillip Ray Grimes; and a sister, Eunice Haskins.
Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with funeral celebrant Sharon Brockhaus officiating. Committal services will be at North Webster Mock Addition Cemetery, followed by interment next to her husband and so many other loved ones and family members.
