Tigers Take Third In Prestigious Marion Invitational

MARION – Warsaw’s Zeb Hernandez finished eighth overall, leading the Tiger cross country team to a third-place finish in the Marion Invitational Saturday. Eighth-ranked Indianapolis North Central won with 75 points, and No. 2 Carroll was second at 94 points to Warsaw’s 116.

Lucas Howett was 13th, Taylor Mills 22nd and Xavi Ramirez 31st in the race. Justin Fleming finished 48th.

Warsaw travels to Goshen for a Northern Lakes Conference race today.

Lady Squires 3rd, Boys 7th At Manchester Invitational

NORTH MANCHESTER – At Saturday’s Manchester Invitational cross country meet, the host Lady Squires finished third. The Manchester boys were 7th overall.

Tippecanoe Valley was 15th in the boys race and 11th in the girls competition. Whitko and Lakeland Christian had runners but didn’t field full teams.

Jaelyn Webb was second and Torina Runkel sixth in the girls race for the Lady Squires. Carter Bedke was 25th in the boys race to pace Manchester.

Matthew Howes paced the Vikings with a 25th-place finish, and Jadyn Kolesiak was 34th for the Lady Vikings.

Whitko hosts Heritage and Fort Wayne Blackhawk today. Lakeland Christian, Whitko and Manchester will run in Saturday’s Tippecanoe Valley Invitational.

Wawasee 7th At Culver Academies Invitational

CULVER – Belle Brunner led Wawasee with a 93, leading the Lady Warriors to a seventh-place finish at the Culver Academies girls golf tournament Saturday at Mystic Hills Golf Club.

Lake Central won the team title with a 327, and Culver Academies was second at 335. Wawasee turned in a 408, one shot behind Concord for sixth.

Jadison Rostochak shot a 103 for the Lady Warriors, with Zoe White and Valerie Haessig both at 106 and Tate Cowan at 109.

Tippecanoe Valley sent two players to the tourney; Jordan Krotke shot a 134 and Bethany Johnson was at 135. Lakeland Christian’s Abigail Fishel posted a 101.

Wawasee will host a non-conference match today with Elkhart Central and Fairfield at Maxwelton Golf Club. Valley hosts Maconaquah and North Miami in a Three Rivers Conference match today at Round Barn Golf  Course in Rochester.



Whitko Girls Golf Wins

FORT WAYNE – Whitko’s girls golf team was credited with a win when host Fort Wayne Canterbury did not field a team for a dual girls golf match Saturday.

Bailey Wright shot a 58 for Whitko, and Makayla Compton shot a 62. Erin Starkweather scored a 63 and Summer West a 65.

Whitko will take on host Southwood in a Three Rivers Conference match today.



Valley Runners-Up At Garrett Tourney

GARRETT – Tippecanoe Valley finished second to defending 1A state champion Fort Wayne Blackhawk in the Garrett Invitational volleyball tournament Saturday.

The Lady Vikings had a 25-10, 25-18 win over New Haven, a 25-10, 25-7 victory over Hamilton and a 25-18, 21-25, 15-8 win over host Garrett before falling 25-18, 25-15 to Blackhawk.

Valley (9-4) returns to Three Rivers Conference action tonight, hosting North Miami.



Squire 4th At West Noble Tennis Tourney

LIGONIER – Manchester’s boys tennis team finished fourth in the eight-team West Noble Invitational on Saturday.

Junior Luke Donathan finished fifth at No. 1 singles. After losing his first match to Huntington North’s Auden Eckert, Donathan came back to beat Evan Baumgartner of Bluffton and West Noble’s Marcus Weimer.

Spence Trick was third at No. 2 singles. He beat Mark Bahr of Bremen in the first round, then fell to Landon McClish of Bluffton in the semifinals. In the third-place match Trick beat West Noble’s Isaac Weimer in straight sets.

Kyle Shepherd was fifth at No. 3 singles. He fell in a third-set points tiebreaker to Rylie Johnston of Bremen, then won by forfeit over Jordan Thornton of Bremen. In his last match Shepherd beat Brock Bohde of West Noble.

At No. 1 doubles, Logan Parrett and Parker Wagoner finished fourth. They won their first-round match over West Noble’s Caleb Thompson and Dillan Sumowski. The Squire duo then lost to Jake Strehler and Bryce Sterling of Bremen and Spencer Atkinson and Clark Kitchen of Huntington North.

Kam Lester and Quinn Martin were fifth at No. 2 doubles, dropping their first-round match to Dylan Hurst and Kade Mosser of Adams Central before beating West Noble’s Andrew Shaw and Andrew Tom. Lester and Martin then won their final match by forfeit over Lakeland.

Manchester returns to Three Rivers Conference play Thursday when it hosts Whitko.



Warriors Have Tough Time In Tourney

SYRACUSE – Wawasee won just one match of 15 in its Varsity Duals boys tennis tournament Saturday.

Brady Robinson and Jake Cowan used a third-set point tiebreaker to win 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 over Andrew Emigh and Tim Gardner of Jimtown. The Jimmies beat Wawasee 4-1.

The Warriors also lost 5-0 decisions to Fairfield and Westview.

Wawasee returns to Northern Lakes Conference play today, visiting Goshen.



Bruins Beat Trojans

WATERFORD MILLS – Bethany Christian beat Triton 5-0 in a non-conference boys tennis match Saturday.

The Trojans will host Tippecanoe Valley at 4:30 p.m. today.

Warsaw Wins Twice To Take Carroll Soccer Invitational

HUNTERTOWN – Warsaw won the Carroll Invitational boys soccer tournament Saturday after beating Homestead 5-3 on penalty kicks in the semifinals and downing Northridge 3-2 in the title game.

Blake Burns, Luis Cleto, Eric Ocock, Cole Voss, and Tedros Berelsman made penalty kicks in the Homestead match. Burns scored twice, including a penalty kick, and Berelsman scored a game-tying goal for Warsaw against the Raiders.

Now 5-3-0 overall, Warsaw plays at Elkhart Memorial today.



Warriors, Vikings Tie

SYRACUSE – Blayne Faught and Chris Pena scored for Wawasee in its 2-2 non-conference boys soccer draw with visiting Huntington North Saturday.

The Vikings won the junior varsity match 1-0.

Wawasee (3-1-2) plays a Northern Lakes Conference match Thursday at NorthWood.



Lady Warriors Blanked By Goshen

SYRACUSE – Goshen shut out Wawasee 7-0 in a Northern Lakes Conference girls soccer match Saturday evening.

The Lady Warriors (1-6, 0-2 NLC) will host Whitko in a non-conference match Wednesday.



Whitko Falls At Mississinewa

GAS CITY – Julia Seifert scored for Whitko on an assist from Abi Hartman in the Lady ‘Cats 3-1 non-conference girls soccer loss at Mississinewa Saturday.

Goalkeeper Stephanie Baughman was credited with 14 saves in the match.

Whitko plays another non-conference match Wednesday, traveling to Syracuse to take on Wawasee at Warrior Field.

Vikings Drop 2 In Tourney Play

PLYMOUTH – Tippecanoe Valley lost a pair of matches in the Blueberry Festival soccer tournament Saturday. The Vikings fell 4-0 to Logansport in the opening match, and 7-2 to Mishawaka in the nightcap.

Fabian Mar and Xabier Armentia scored goals for the Vikings against the Cavemen.

The Vikings travel to North Miami today for a Three Rivers Conference match.
