Florence Horn will celebrate her 100th birthday on Thursday.

Florence was born Nov. 2, 1917, the second of four daughters, to Clarence and Golden Quine, in Wayne Township, where she has lived her entire life.

On April 3, 1937, in Warsaw, she married the love of her life, Owen Horn, whom she met at Creighton Brothers. Owen was their first employee, and Florence cared for Mrs. Russell Creighton (Owen's sister), who was ailing. Owen passed away in 1989.

They had two daughters, Millicent (Dennis) Andrews and Nedra (Lewis) Dobbins; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren.

She has always been active in her church, holding many offices, and taught Sunday school. She and Owen were also active in Gideons International and the Republican Party.   She has also belonged to the American Association of University Women, Warsaw Historical Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, and delivered Mobile Meals.

Thirty years after her graduation from Warsaw High School, she decided in 1965 to get a college education, choosing Grace College, and graduated with honors three years later. She taught first grade at Claypool and kindergarten at Jefferson for a total of 16 years, retiring in 1984.

The goal she hopes to accomplish before her 100th birthday is completing 100 afghans. She has given away 98 to individuals over the years.

Her daughters will honor her birthday with an open house for family and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, at Warsaw First Brethren Church, 1318 E. Center St., Warsaw, IN 46580.

Cards and well wishes may be sent to Florence in care of the church.
