Lutheran Health Network KCH hosted a groundbreaking for the new Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Complex located next to DePuy Synthes on U.S. 30 in Warsaw.

Construction is underway with an anticipated completion in the spring, according to a news release from Lutheran.

The facility will feature Optimum Performance Sports, Lutheran Health Network’s sports medicine program, which focuses on sports performance, sports medicine and physical therapy.

The OPS Warsaw program will be operated by trained staff of Optimum Performance Sports and the KCH Regional Rehabilitation Center.

OPS offers the only sports program in northeastern Indiana that is dedicated to improving the biomechanics of athletes. This expansion of services is a collaboration between Lutheran Health Network KCH and The Orthopedic Hospital of Lutheran Health Network to meet the needs of regional athletes, the release said.

“KCH is developing a coordinated and comprehensive orthopedic and sports medicine program to complement and support our school collaborations, patients and community needs. We believe this is another positive step toward enhancing orthopedic care in Warsaw, the Orthopedic Capital of the World,” said Kirk Ray, CEO of Lutheran Health Network KCH.

OPS has evolved over time to support the progress of athletes of all ages and skill levels. Beneficiaries include those playing on area high school, college and professional teams, and any other individual who has chosen to emphasize physical activity in their daily lives. OPS programs in the Fort Wayne-area are based out of the ASH Centre. The OPS Warsaw location will be the second OPS facility to serve the northern Indiana region.  

“Our trainers take an in-depth look at the functional needs of all athletes with the ultimate goal of helping each move in a more efficient manner. This not only improves overall speed, power and quickness, but it decreases the likelihood of athletic injury. Athletes are taught to move in the most efficient manner possible using the correct muscular patterns. And then, skill is built on that foundation,” said Dr. Jason Russell, founder and director of OPS.

Within the 12,600-square-foot space, a physical therapy clinic will be available with an emphasis on sports physical therapy. In addition to PT treatment, the facility will include a regulation sized, a half basketball court for 3-on-3 basketball and volleyball; a turf section; and a rubber gym floor for specific sports training.

The weight room will provide strength training and functional movement equipment designed for sports performance training.
