Kosciusko Retired Teachers met Oct. 10 for their final program and business meeting of the year. Julie Martin called the gathering to order and Dorothy Sweeney provided the music. New member Sharon Gallagher and visitors Marsha Randolph and Deloris Roberts were introduced.
IRTA Area 2 Director Judy Hostetler shared updates on state information. She installed new officers Sandy Kunce as president and Jill Beehler as vice president.
The memorial program to honor teachers who have died was led by Dan Pacheco and Joyce Cumberland reading two poems. Jane Ann Bowers, Josephine Butler, Gene England, Mary Ettinger, Katherine Farrar, George Plew and Terry Winteregg were remembered for their years of service, schools where they taught and memories from fellow teachers.
Mary Lou Smith won the drawing for bringing retired teachers. Door prizes were awarded to Betty Sanders, Don Pacheco and Sandy Kunce.
Lunch and social gatherings are planned for Feb. 13 and April 10. Locations will be announced.

Tuesday Night Bridge Group
Tuesday Night Bridge Group announces results from recent gatherings.
Six tables played on Oct. 10. Winners were Connie Ker, Nancy Dalton, Grant Magner, Tom Anderson, Rosalee Spear, Virginia Horn and Hugh Ressler.
There were also six tables when the group gathered Oct. 3. Winners were Annette Magner, Grant Magner, Virginia Horn, Elaine Tripp, Tom Anderson, Jan Chiddister and Kathy Clary.
Janet and John Wagley were hostess and host for both meetings.
American Association Of University Women
The October meeting for the American Association of University Women will be Monday at Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw. Members are asked to enter through Door 6 to the community room on the main floor.
The program will be on the use of essential oils. Co-hostesses for the meeting are June Stealy, Judi Services, Lynn Groff, Doris Cook and Marsha Cook.
To be eligible to be a member of AAUW, a person must have at minimum an associate degree or equivalent. Contact Linda Scalet at 574-267-3692 to discuss membership.
Genealogy Group Of KCHS
The Genealogy Group of Kosciusko County Historical Society will meet Tuesday to discuss DNA.
An overview of Cece Moore’s Oct. 7 presentation at Fort Wayne Genealogy Center and her handouts will be available. DNA results will be visible on the library’s computer.
The meeting will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the Old Jail Museum Genealogy Library, 121 N. Indiana St., Warsaw. Limited parking is available in the back lot.

Four Seasons Ladies Bridge
WINONA LAKE — The Four Seasons Ladies Bridge group met Oct. 11 at Grace Village.
Winners were Judy Stewart, Barb Calhan, Dorothy Sweeney and Joan Earhart.
Barb Calhan was the hostess.
Frances Slocum Chapter, DAR
The Frances Slocum Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) met Oct. 10 at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Activity Room, Wabash.
The meeting opened with the DAR ritual. Devotions were "Promises Made and Kept,” Hebrews 6:19 given by Mary Jenet Penrod. Joyce Joy shared the president general’s message.
DAR celebrates the 127th anniversary of its founding in October. Members are encouraged to participate in service projects this month as part of the National DAR Day of Service in honor of the anniversary.
Kie Ann Kirk gave the national defender report on “The Soldiers’ Friend,” actor Gary Sinise, whose character Lt. Dan was saved from a life of drunken despair in “Forest Gump.” Now, his Gary Sinise Foundation builds specially adapted homes for severely wounded veterans. On Wednesday, Sinise received the highest medal for civilians, the George C. Marshall Medal from the Association of the United States Army.
The Indian Committee Minute report was given on Pushmataha, a Choctaw chief who died in 1827. He prophesied that the Choctaw war cry would be heard in many foreign lands. The report said Choctaw soldiers were distinguished in all U.S. wars.
Claudia Edward, a former member living in Woodstock, Ill., invited the group via letter to “A Conversation with Caroline Scott Harrison” on Oct. 21 at the Peabody Public Library, Columbia City. Other upcoming events include a dedication ceremony honoring Pvt. Abraham Abshire and Elizabeth Abshire Mills, Oct 22 at the Holderman Park and Cemetery, North Manchester; and a genealogy workshop from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. today at North Manchester Public Library, Blocher Room.
TJ Honeycutt, collections assistant, Wabash County Museum, gave the program on the “History of Memorial Hall” (Grand Army of the Republic). Memorial Hall is the only monument building to commemorate Civil War soldiers who gave their lives for their country. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 18, 1986.
The next meeting of the Frances Slocum Chapter will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Grandstaff Hentgen Activity Room, 1231 Manchester Ave., Wabash. The program will be given by Karen Stouffer on “Local Indian Sites.” Prospective members and guests are welcome.
DAR membership is open to any woman 18 or older who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution. Those having questions about their family history lineage information may visit www.dar.org, or call Linda Thompson at 260-563-4661 or Barbara Amiss at 260-982-4376.
Singles Meeting Friends
Twelve people attended Wednesday’s meeting, when the group celebrated the October birthdays of Ray and Kathy with mini chocolate cupcakes.
Some group members are leaving within the next week or so for Florida and Arizona for the winter.
Charlene, a movie buff, said she enjoyed the movie “Bonneville” and recommended it to the group. Linda agreed, saying it is an “enjoyable, hilarious chick flick.”
Tips for taking care of yourself were shared. They included drinking plenty of water, eat more fruits and vegetables, play more games, read more books, and sit in silence for 10 minutes each day.
The group meets every Wednesday evening in the deli at Martin’s Super Market, Warsaw. It also has game night the second Friday of every month.
