Whitko Wins Boys Hoops Opener Over Columbia City

SOUTH WHITLEY – River West had 17 points and Spencer Sroufe had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds for Whitko in its come-from-behind 46-40 non-conference boys basketball win over Columbia City Wednesday night.

The Wildcats trailed 14-10 after the first quarter and 20-18 at halftime of the season opener for both teams. The Eagles took a 30-26 lead into the final period.

Brett Sickafoose had seven points, with Brian Collins, Cade Bechtold and Shad Ebbinghouse adding two points each for Whitko.

Columbia City won the junior varsity contest 44-41.

Whitko (1-0) will host Wabash  (0-1) Dec. 1 in the Three Rivers Conference opener for both squads.



2nd Quarter Pivotal In Squires’ Loss

NORTH MANCHESTER – In its season-opening game Wednesday night, Manchester held a 13-8 lead after a quarter. Mississinewa outscored the Squires 26-12 in the second period and went on to a 64-52 boys basketball win.

Mason Hamby had 15 points for Manchester, with Brayden Casper adding 14 points and Koehl Fluke adding 12 for Manchester. Casper had a team-high five rebounds.

Mississinewa won the junior varsity game 43-28 over the Squires.

Manchester (0-1) will host Oak Hill in the second game of a girls/boys doubleheader Saturday.



Triton Wrestlers Earn Trio Of Victories

ROCHESTER – Triton won all three of its wrestling matches Wednesday. The Trojans won 48-30 over Winamac, 63-12 over Culver Community and 41-36 over host Rochester.

Connor Pitney, Nate Riggins, James Snyder and Billy Smith each won all three of their matches.

D’Angelo Shumpert, Riley Chickering, Ryan Snyder, Vincent Helton and Ethan Berry won two matches each.

Bryce Coppes, Dylan Fear, Alejandro Cabrera, Andrew Stephens and Sheldon Rolston earned one win each.

Next up for Triton is the Winamac Invitational on Dec. 2.
