Nita May Brickel, Winona Lake, passed away at 9:35 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at Grace Village Health Care, Winona Lake, at the age of 89. 

She was born Dec. 1, 1927, in Newcastle, Pa., to Clyde Thomas Bookamer and Jessie Joanna Lindsey Bookamer. On June 19, 1948, she was married to Bruce Allen Brickel, who passed away June 11, 2015. 

Nita had been a resident of Kosciusko County, Indiana, since 1969 and was a member of Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church. Nita was very involved in her church home and enjoyed singing in the choir. 

She had attended Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn., for two years, and received an honorary bachelor’s degree. Nita, along with her husband, Bruce, owned and operated Lakeview Laundromat in Winona Lake for many years. She kept active throughout her life and enjoyed serving as a member in the Kosciusko County Auxiliary and supporting missionaries around the world for years. She will be dearly missed and forever loved by her family and friends. 

She will be lovingly remembered by her three sons: Doug (wife Donna) Brickel, Daytona Beach, Fla.; Don (wife Sandy) Brickel, Franklin, Tenn.; and Duane Brickel (fiancée Yvette Lamy), Melissa, Texas; and her daughter, Lynn (husband Dale) Lehman, Fort Wayne. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Wesley (wife Dorothy) Bookamer, Akron, Pa.; and her twin sister, Nola Caraway, Johnson City, Tenn. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a grandson, Stephen; daughter-in-law, Rosie Linda Brickel; sister, Joyce Brandt; and her brother, Richard Bookamer.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

Her funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m.  Wednesday, Nov. 22, at Winona Lake Grace Brethren Church, 1200 Kings Highway, Winona Lake, and officiated by Pastor Bruce Barlow. Burial will follow with a graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
