Lady ‘Cats Fall Behind Early In Non-Conference Loss

By Staff Report-

SOUTH WHITLEY – Whitko’s girls basketball team fell in an early hole and never recovered in a 44-27 non-conference loss to visiting Huntington North Friday night.

The Lady Wildcats trailed 18-4 after the first quarter and 27-8 at halftime.

Ellie Snep had a double-double for Whitko with 17 points and 17 rebounds. Kayla Schipper had six points and six rebounds.

"We had some offensive struggles in the first half but defensively we played really well," Whitko coach Rick Bragg said. "As we have all year, we refuse to back down or quit and that incredible effort and mental toughness really came through in the second half.

"We played our best half of basketball this season in the third and fourth quarters at both ends of the court. We continue to grow and understand the game and responsibilities each player has. We had some really great looks at the basket most of the night, which is a result of slowly becoming better and more confident in our offense. I continue to marvel at the effort and willingness of the kids to learn how to play and to learn how to compete.”

Whitko takes a 1-5 record into tonight’s non-conference game at Madison-Grant.
