Eleanor Elaine Creighton Bornmann, known as Elaine, formerly of Warsaw, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Arvada, Colo., at the age of 85 on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017. She had been in failing health the past few months.

Elaine was born June 16, 1932, in Atwood, the firstborn child of Kathryn M. Koontz Creighton and Charles O. Creighton. She was eventually joined by siblings Roger, Ann, Gloria Jean and Allen.

On Dec. 22, 1951, she was united in marriage in her parents’ home to Harrison “Harry” F. Bornmann III; he preceded her in death on March 29, 2015. They enjoyed over 63 years together and raised three children.

A graduate of Mentone High School and International Business College, Fort Wayne, Elaine enjoyed working with numbers and doing paperwork. She and Harry enjoyed their time stationed in Germany during his Army days — and life on the Purdue University campus where Harry completed his degree. While raising their family, they worked side-by-side on Hilltop Poultry Farm in the Palestine area. The couple eventually relocated to Colorado, where she retired from Mervyn’s Department Store.

In addition to traveling in their motor home enjoying visits to family and friends, Elaine was an avid TV watcher and sports lover — rooting for Jeff Gordon during NASCAR races and cheering on the Denver Broncos.

She will be lovingly remembered by her three children: Gail (husband Ron) Buhr, Warsaw; David (wife Jenny) Bornmann, Valparaiso; and Lisabeth (husband Dave) Huyck, Arvada, Colo.

They were further blessed with eight grandchildren: Travis (wife Amanda) Shively, Etna Green; Trenton (wife Nicole) Shively, Warsaw; Ashley (husband Kyle) Zender, Coos Bay, Ore.; Leslie (husband Matthew) Willingham, Valparaiso; Lauren (husband Josh) Burgan, College Station, Texas; Leyalle (husband David) Harris, Copperas Cove, Texas; Erinn Donnelly, Wichita, Kan.; and Lindsey (husband Chris) Mahns, Westville; and 15 great-grandchildren, with another on the way.

Also surviving are her sister: Ann (husband Mel) Fuller, Fort Myers, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Bornmann, Orefield, Pa., and Nancy Piel, Wheat Ridge, Colo.; and her brother-in-law, Richard Bornmann, Wheat Ridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant sister, Gloria Jean Creighton, and two brothers, Roger and Allen Creighton.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.

Her funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 21, at the funeral home and officiated by Pastor Matthew Willingham. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) are for people over the age of 70.5 years old. Unlike other distributions, which are taxed at ordinary income tax rates, Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) allow for a tax-free distribution from an IRA, provided that the distribution goes directly to a qualified charity.
