He was born Nov. 11, 1929, in Warsaw, to John Waldo and Amanda Fahl Sprong. On Sept. 4, 1948, he married Evelyn Mae Curtis, who died Jan. 26, 1985. On July 4, 1987, he married Shirley Carter, who survives in Warsaw.
He was a retired pattern maker. He liked to design and build things.
He served with the National Guard. He had been a driver for the Happy Wanderer and attended New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, Warsaw.
Other survivors include a daughter, Lona Makay, Warsaw; two sons, Rick DeLoy (Faith) Sprong, Clunette, and Mark DeWayne (Debbie) Sprong, Leesburg; four grandchildren: Gretchen (Scott) Powell, Warsaw; John (Lena) Makay, South Bend; Kelly (Bo) Barasa, Elkhart; and Caleb Sprong, Seattle, Wash.; 10 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Martha Molebash, Warsaw; and a sister-in-law, Sandy Sprong, Warsaw.
He was preceded by a daughter, Candy Chupp; and two brothers, Roland LeRoy Sprong and John Raymond Sprong.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, 3561 N. Detroit St., Warsaw, with Pastor David Cripe officiating.
