Schuh Steps Down As Grace Tennis Coach

WINONA LAKE – Larry Schuh has decided to step down from his post as Grace College’s men’s tennis coach after a decade-long stretch of excellence.

Andy Lewis has been named the interim head coach for the spring where he will assume all recruiting and daily duties for the program.

Schuh, who was a two-time conference Coach of the Year, is the top tennis coach in school history. He led the Lancers to back-to-back conference championships in 2012 and 2013.

Schuh inherited a program in 2008 that had not won a match in two years. He proceeded to steadily build the Lancers into a powerhouse.

“It has been an awesome privilege to serve God and Grace College as coach of the tennis team for the last 10 years. I would like to thank Chad [Briscoe] for his support through the years, along with Leon Brenneman for his years of support to the Grace team as an assistant coach,” Schuh said. “Andy is going to do a great job, and I know the program will be in good hands as he continues as the interim head coach.”

Lewis served as the assistant coach for Grace this fall, and he will now lead the Lancers’ recruiting efforts as well as direct the spring matches and practices.

Lewis is no stranger to Lancer tennis. He was a two-time NAIA national qualifier and won numerous conference awards.

He also served as the tennis coach at Warsaw from 1993-2004. He helped the Tigers win eight sectional championships, two team regional championships and seven individual regional crowns.

“God has opened up this door to coach Grace’s tennis program, and I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity,” Lewis said. “I greatly enjoyed working with the men this fall, and I look forward to continuing on the foundation of success that Larry has built.”

Grace Director of Athletics Chad Briscoe added: “I appreciate all that Coach Schuh has done for the men's tennis program at Grace College. He has changed the culture of the program during his time as coach. We will greatly miss him but are excited for the new chapter in his life. We welcome Coach Lewis, who has taken great ownership in the program serving as the assistant this past fall. I appreciate his willingness to serve as the interim head coach, and I look forward to his leadership both on and off the court.”
