The fourth candidate to enter the Republican caucus to replace middle district commissioner Ron Truex has a familiar name to say the least.
Kosciusko County Councilwoman Joni Truex has filed paperwork and will gear up for Wednesday’s Republican caucus at 7 p.m. at the old county courthouse in Warsaw to replace the longtime commissioner.
Deadline to file paperwork for the caucus is Sunday night.

Ron Truex resigned last month after realizing he had inadvertently moved out of the district to a new home right on the district line west of Warsaw. He had served as commissioner for 17 years.
Other candidates include Cary Groninger, Sheal Dirck and Teresa Cosgrove.
Joni Truex, 58, lives south of Atwood and was elected to an at-large seat on county council a year ago.
She and Ron are related. Specifically, her husband, Dale, and Ron are first cousins, Joni said.
Asked about the potential for confusion or even the oddity of a Truex potentially replacing a Truex, Joni said it probably makes no difference.
She added, “I’ll stand on my own merits.”
She was complimentary of the man she seeks to replace, saying it was unfortunate that he had to resign.
She said she had been looking to run for the seat if Truex chose not to run again in three years.
She said she has been encouraged by others to seek the seat once it opened up.
She made a point to say she’s come to learn how dedicated the county workforce is and how the employees and county leaders have combined to put the county in a good financial situation.
She said she wants to the keep the county on that conservative fiscal path that’s been established by the county commissioners and council over the years.
Even though she’s only been on the council for a year, she said he believes it gives her an edge in understanding county government and related finances.
Joni Truex is a professor and teachs business at Ivy Tech Community College. She is a Kosciusko Leadership Academy graduate and is a former executive officer with the Builders Association Kosciusko Fulton Counties.
She said she believes her background in agriculture and business, as well as the builders association and other ties, gives her a unique skillset that prepares her to serve as commissioner.
She sits on the KEDCO infrastructure committee and is involved with public policy with the Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce.
She is also president-elect for the Kiwanis.
