He was born Oct. 8, 1925, in Wabash County and was the son of Lawrence and Mary Frantz Hoover, who preceded him in death.
He was married to Joann Snell on April 24, 1948. They were married for 69 years. She survives.
He worked for Harting Furniture from 1947 to 1967 and at Peabody Seating for the following 10 years. He then worked at Zimmer in Warsaw as a leadman over buildings and grounds for 15, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the West Manchester Church of the Brethren, North Manchester.
He graduated from Laketon High School in 1943. He enjoyed playing golf, singing in the West Manchester Church of the Brethren choir and activities at Timbercrest. He enjoyed euchre and was in a traveling pool league.
He loved his church family and family and playing games – often quite competitive – with family members.
Other survivors include two sons, Steve (Kris) Hoover, Westfield, and Randy (Sandy) Hoover, Hilton Head, S.C.; a daughter, Nancy (Frank) Harris, Michigan City; a sister, Grace Metzger, North Manchester; five grandchildren: Amy (Eric) Stewart, Westfield; Ashley (Lance) Vogel, Indianapolis; Catie Hoover Hoffman, Cincinnati, Ohio; Neil Harris, Warsaw; and Amy (Steve) Maull, Warsaw; five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer and Ray Hoover; and two sisters, Ruby Muir and Verna Shively.
Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Nov. 18 at Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East St., North Manchester. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the chapel. Pastor Keren Eberly will officiate.
Burial will at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Ind. 114, a mile west of Ind. 13 in North Manchester.
