NORTH MANCHESTER — Cloanne Rae Nelson Snyder, 81, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Peabody Retirement Community.

Cloanne was born Sept. 26, 1935, in Warsaw. She graduated from Mentone High School, class of 1953, and attended Manchester College.

Cloanne was sophisticated and smart, a woman far ahead of her time and place. She had a green thumb, loved fashion magazines and shaggy dogs. Above all, she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A close second for her affection was collecting and selling antiques. As the “The Humble Collector” she worked decades traveling the country’s top antique show circuit, driving her van to Nashville one week and Manhattan the next. Her peers in the business considered her a tastemaker and an expert on early Americana and American Indian artifacts.  When poor health forced her off the road and into retirement, she filled her room at Peabody’s with her most favorite pieces from a half century of collecting, and continued hunting for treasures in the Peabody gift shop.

Cloanne is survived by her daughter, Pamela Sinderbrand (Steve), Margate, N.J.; son, Shannon Snyder, Wabash; and her grandchildren: Hanna Newcomer (Jeff), Sean Sinderbrand (Andi) and Leah Sinderbrand. Cloanne was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Scott Sinderbrand and Archer Newcomer. She is also survived by her sister, Martha Lennane, and brother, Phil Nelson (Jeanie), and many loving nieces and nephews.

Cloanne was predeceased by her parents, Delford and Dorothy Nelson, and her sister, Janice Gawthrop.

A memorial service for Cloanne will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, in Peabody Memorial Chapel, Peabody Retirement Community, 400 W. Seventh St., North Manchester. Visitation, also in the Chapel, begins at 9:30 a.m.

Arrangements are by Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, North Manchester.

Chip Shots: How Callous IS It?
For every 700 to 1,000 words of mine you read on any given Saturday, I have a list of callous, cynical thoughts and remarks I can make about the topics I discuss… easily five-fold of what I allow past my filter and, in turn, e-mail to my editor.
