LCA Announces Top Students Of 2016-17

Lakeland Christian Academy announced its honor students for the class of 2017.

In addition to valedictorian and salutatorian, Lakeland Christian awards a Timothian Award. The Timothian Award is unique to LCA and is based on 1 Timothy 4:12. It is awarded by the faculty to the senior(s) who exhibits excellence in spiritual leadership and character.

Ellie Nieveen is valedictorian for the class of 2017. She is the daughter of Scott and Julie Nieveen.

She has attended LCA for six years. She earned a cumulative numeric average of 98.92.

Nieveen has been a leader in student government for five out of her six years at LCA, is a member of the National Honor Society, and participated in choir and in four plays at LCA. She also played volleyball and basketball and ran track and field five out of six years.

During her senior year, she worked as head lifeguard and swim instructor at the YMCA.

Nieveen plans to attend Grace College in the fall to study secondary education in the area of life sciences.

Melissa Goss is the daughter of Andrew and Michele Goss. She is this year’s salutatorian and Timothian Award winner.

She earned a cumulative numeric average of 98.46.  She attended LCA for six years.

Goss has the honor of being LCA’s first athlete to complete 18 sports seasons. She played three sports every year from seventh to 12th grade. During this time, she was captain of both the soccer and basketball teams her junior and senior years.

She was a leader in FCA, a member and leader of National Honor Society, and a leader of the LCA Blood Drive.

Besides academic awards, she has received such awards as Christian Service Award, Distinguished Christian High School Student Award, Senior Athlete, Timothian, Torch & Laurel and the DAR award.  

Goss plans to attend Grace College in the fall to study exercise science and physical therapy.
