Whitko Edges Manchester 3-2 At Oak Hill Sectional
CONVERSE – No. 14 Whitko pushed across a run in the top of the seventh inning to beat No. 7 Manchester 3-2 in the semifinals of the 2A Oak Hill Sectional softball tournament Thursday.
Manchester led 1-0 after the first inning before the Lady Wildcats scored runs in the third and fiftth frames to take the lead. The Lady Squires tied the game in the bottom of the sixth to set up Whitko’s heroics.
Whitko’s Ellie Snep doubled, singled and from the pitcher’s circle struck out four Manchester batters. Emalee Duggins had two singles, with Andrea Snavely and Anna Ousley each adding a single in the game.
Emma West had two hits for Manchester. Brooklyn Howard had eight strikouts in her final game as a Lady Squire.
The Lady Wildcats (21-5) will face No. 18 and host Oak Hill (20-7) for the sectional title at 7 p.m. today. Manchester finished its season with a 20-3 record.
Squire BB Season Ends
WABASH – Manchester was held to three hits in its 3-0 baseball loss to Cass in the 2A Wabash Sectional Thursday night.
David McAtee opened the game with a single, Kane Gable singled with one out in the fourth and Mason Meyer singled with two outs in the seventh. None of the runners made it past first base.
Manchester finished with a 13-10 record.
Valley Falls To Chargers
SYRACUSE – West Noble scored three runs in the first inning and another in the second before going on to beat Tippecanoe Valley 6-3 in the 3A NorthWood baseball sectional Thursday. The game was played at Wawasee’s Warrior Field due to wet grounds at NorthWood.
Statistics for Tippecanoe Valley were not available as of press time. The Vikings finished with a 9-11 record.
Triton Golf Wins Twice, Valley Beats Bremen
BREMEN – Triton earned a pair of non-conference boys golf wins Thursday, beating Tippecanoe Valley and host Bremen at Sprig O’ Mint Golf Course. The Trojans shot 182 to Valley’s 198 and Bremen’s 206.
Beau Hepler paced the balanced Trojans with a 44. Spencer Johnson had a 45, Bryce Swihart a 46, while Braden Kreft and Isaac Wall each shot 47s.
The Vikings’ Jeremy Julian was the match medalist with a 42. John Young and Noah Hoffman each shot 51s, Chris Schipper a 54 and Bryston Canada a 66.
Cade Brouyette had a 45 for the Viking junior varsity. Wyatt Hall had a 58, Bryce Madeford a 59 and Billy Gillman a 61.
Triton and Valley will both play in the Lancer Invitational at Spring O’Mint Saturday.
Triton’s Doubles Team Wins
CULVER – Emma Ross and Hannah Wanemacher of Triton advanced in the IHSAA girls tennis doubles sectional with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Kendra Doerr and Kabrea Rostochak of Wawasee Thursday at Culver Academies.
The Lady Trojan duo will play Rachael Dodson and Harshita Sanaraju of Culver Academies at 5 p.m. today. The winner of that match advances to the regional in LaPorte June 3.
Triton BB Sectional Game Moved To Saturday
FORT WAYNE – Due to inclement weather earlier in the week, Triton’s baseball game against Hamilton in the 1A Blackhawk Sectional has been moved to 10 a.m. Saturday.
If Triton wins, it’ll play in the semifinals at noon Monday. The sectional championship game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Monday.
Squires Fall To Tigers
PERU – Harley Kruschwitz shot a 41 to lead Manchester in the Squires’ 179-186 Three Rivers Conference boys golf loss to Peru at Rock Hollow Golf Club Thursday.
Nathan Self shot a 46 and Parker Wagoner a 48 for Manchester. Klayton Hendrix had a 51 and Konrad Borgmann a 63.
Logan Parrett had a 51 for the Squire junior varsity. Mathias McLaughlin had a 51 and Dylan Brubaker shot a 67 for Manchester.
The Squires wrap up their regular season at the Wabash Invitational Saturday.
Eagles Down Warriors
SYRACUSE – Zac Leedy shot a 4-over par 40 for Wawasee, but the Warriors fell 162-187 to visiting Columbia City in a non-conference boys golf match Thursday at South Shore Golf Club.
Evan Dippon had a 47 and Cameron Brill a 48 for Wawasee. Dillon Drake had a 52 and Luke Weisser a 55.
Jared Krugman had a 52 for the Warrior junior varsity. Kobe Jones shot a 56, Jake Cowan a 57 and Cody Sherman a 73.
Wawasee closed the regular season with a 6-9 record and will play in the Warsaw Sectional June 2 at Rozella Ford.
