Manchester Downs Maconaquah; Title Match Today
PERU – Saturday’s rain held off just enough for Manchester to finish off a 5-0 win over Maconaquah and Peru downed Southwood in the Peru Girls Tennis Sectional.
But after waiting quite a while, the rain forced the sectional final to be moved to today.
The Lady Squires had previously clinched victory over the Lady Braves, but needed to finish matches at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles to see if Maconaquah players could qualify for the individual state tournament.
In the end, each position for Manchester won in straight sets, setting up today’s final against host Peru. Play will begin at 4:45 p.m.

Trojans Win Conference Boys Golf Title
CULVER – All five members of Triton’s varsity boys golf team were named all-conference as the Trojans rolled to the Hoosier North Athletic Conference title Saturday at Mystic Hills Golf Club. The Trojans’ score of 158 was better than LaVille’s 166 and Winamac’s 168.
Bryce Swihart had a 38 for Triton, good enough for sixth place in the rain-shortened tourney. Spencer Johnson tied for seventh at 39, Braden Kreft tied for ninth with a 40, with Beau Hepler and Isaac Wall carding 41s and tying for 11th. All five placed in the top 15, earning them all-conference honors.
Triton will host Bremen and Tippecanoe Valley Thursday.
Barons Down Tigers
Braxton Tennant doubled and singled in Warsaw’s 7-2 baseball loss to DeKalb in what proved to be the only round of the Tiger Tournament Saturday. The remaining games were rained out.
Warsaw (7-19) hosts Elkhart Central to close out the regular season today, then has a rematch with the Blazers in the Elkhart Memorial Sectional on Thursday.
Whitko Baseball Beats Prairie Heights
LAGRANGE – Whitko rallied late to put away host Prairie Heights 9-5 in a non-conference baseball game Saturday. The second game of the doubleheader was rained out.
Tied 2-2 after five innings, Whitko scored five runs in the sixth and added two more in the seventh.
River West struck out 10 in 6-2/3 innings and was the winning pitcher for the Wildcats. Drew Bradford had an RBI double in the first inning for Whitko.
The Wildcats (19-7) close out their regular season today at Bellmont in Decatur.

Saturday’s Rainouts
Most high school sporting events in the Times-Union coverage area were rained out Saturday.
The Northern Lakes Conference boys golf tournament was moved to 5 p.m. today at Pretty Lake Golf Club near Plymouth, and will be shortened to nine holes.
Several baseball and softball games were cancelled and, with sectional play beginning this week, will not be made up.
Three softball games, Warsaw at Manchester and a doubleheader with Whitko at Norwell, were cancelled.
Manchester was able to begin a baseball doubleheader with Eastside, but play was called off with the teams tied 3-3 after three innings.
Also cancelled was Tippecanoe Valley’s appearance in the Twin Lakes baseball tournament.
Triton began its non-conference baseball game with visiting Argos, but wasn’t able to play enough to make it official.
