Wildcats Second At Bremen Boys Track Sectional
BREMEN – Whitko’s boys track team finished with 107.5 points at the Bremen Sectional Thursday, 6-1/2 points behind champion Plymouth.
Manchester edged Tippecanoe Valley for seventh place, 49.5-48.5, and Triton was 10th with eight points.
Whitko’s Garrett Elder won the 100 and long jump, and was on the winning 4x100 relay team with Chase Meade, Alex Wilson and Shad Ebbinghouse. Gavin Howard was a double winner for the Wildcats, taking the shot put and discus.
Wilson won the 200 and was second to Elder in the 100. Ebbinghouse was second in the 300 hurdles and third in the 110 hurdles. Conner Sherwin was second to Howard in the discus.
Manchester’s 4x800 relay team of Ethan Davis, Drew Jones, Ben Richenbach and Parker Yard finished third, as did the 4x100 relay team of Jacob Burton, Trey Clark, Nick Wagner and Brandon Wagoner. Isaiah Davis was second in the high jump and long jump and Clark finished third in the 200.
Tippecanoe Valley’s Dakota Parker won the 400, and the Viking 4x400 relay team of Jared Mikel, Jordan Owens, Parker and Keith Wright was second. Jameson Baker was second in the shot put and Wright was third in the long jump.
The top three finishers in each event qualify for the Kokomo Regional on Thursday.
Lady Squires Win, But Match Not Yet Complete
PERU – Manchester knows it will be competing in the Peru Girls Tennis Sectional Final, but not before taking care of unfinished business.
The Lady Squires led Maconaquah 3-0 when heavy rain forced play to stop for the night.
In the final, Manchester will play either Peru or Southwood. Peru led 2-1 when play was suspended.
The tournament is scheduled to resume at 4:30 p.m. today, with the finals beginning 30 minutes after the conclusion of the last semifinal.
Lady Trojans Fall; No. 1 Doubles Advances
BREMEN – Triton’s girls tennis team lost 3-2 to host Bremen in a girls tennis sectional semifinal Thursday.
The Lady Trojans’ No. 1 doubles team of Emma Ross and Hannah Wanemacher won and advanced to play in the Culver Academies Individual Sectional next week.
Triton finished its season with a 7-5 record.
Lady Tigers Rally For Win
Warsaw used a five-run sixth inning to win a see-saw Northern Lakes Conference softball game 9-7 over Elkhart Memorial Thursday.
The Lady Tigers led 2-0 after two innings, but Memorial answered with three runs in the third. Warsaw reclaimed the lead with a pair of runs in the fourth, only to see the Lady Chargers score three times in the top of the sixth.
Abby Glass, Lauren Shaffner and Adara Frey had doubles in the game for Warsaw. Shaffner, Kalie Keener and Saylor Bradley had two RBIs each.
Courtney Chookie was the winning pitcher, striking out four Memorial batters.
Warsaw will play its final home game of the season today, hosting Tippecanoe Valley at 5 p.m.
Tiger Golfers Split Matches
MIDDLEBURY – Warsaw’s golf team split a pair of Northern Lakes Conference matches Thursday at Meadow Valley Golf Club. Host Northridge posted a team score of 156, and the Tigers won a fifth-player tiebreaker with Concord, each shooting 171.
The Tigers were led by a pair of 42s by Luke Johnson and Tommy Meier. Luke Delp shot a 43, Tim Rata a 44, and Sam Yeager 45.
The Tiger junior varsity shot 182 in wins over Northridge (193) and Concord (206). Warsaw was led by Jacob LaLonde, who shot a 42, tying for low score. Chase Byron followed with a 46, while both Zach LaLonde and Brian Elliott shot 47. Cole Voss rounded out the team with a 50.
The varsity results created a three-way tie on top of the NLC regular season standings with Warsaw, Plymouth and Northridge all at 6-1. The conference title will be on the line at the NLC Tournament at Pretty Lake Golf Club in Plymouth Saturday.
Tigers Fall At Memorial
ELKHART – Warsaw managed just four singles in a 13-2, five-inning loss at Elkhart Memorial in Northern Lakes Conference baseball Thursday.
Now 7-16 overall, the Tigers will host Penn (20-5) in the opening round of the Tiger Tournament Saturday.
Wawasee Golfers Drop Two
PLYMOUTH – Zach Leedy shot a 41, the low score for Wawasee in its two Northern Lakes Conference losses Thursday at Pretty Lake Golf Club. Plymouth finished at 160, NorthWood at 173 and the Warriors at 182.
Cameron Brill had a 44, Dillon Drake a 48, Luke Weisser a 49 and Evan Dippon a 53 for the Warriors.
Wawasee (6-8 overall, 2-5 in the conference) returns to Pretty Lake Saturday for the NLC Tournament.
Trojans Rout Cavaliers
BOURBON – Triton scored a bunch of runs every chance it got in a 27-1 five-inning Hoosier North Athletic Conference baseball rout of visiting Culver Community Thursday.
After scoring nine runs in the first two innings, the Trojans exploded with 12 runs in the third, then added six more in the fourth. Zac Pitney homered twice, doubled and drove in five runs. Connor Pitney drove in four runs. Nate Flenar and Max Slusser scored five runs each.
Triton improved to 10-5 in the HNAC and 14-7 overall. Culver is 2-17-1 and 1-13 in the conference. The two teams will meet again today at Culver.
Thursday’s Rainouts
There were two rainouts in the Times-Union coverage area Thursday.
Tippecanoe Valley, Whitko and host Manchester had their Three Rivers Conference boys golf match at Sycamore Golf club rained out, and a make-up date has not yet been announced.
Manchester’s softball game at Oak Hill was cancelled and will not be made up.
