Lady Wildcats Advance In Girls Tennis Sectional

Sweeping Columbia City at all three singles positions, Whitko advanced in the Warsaw Girls Tennis Sectional with a 4-1 win over the Lady Eagles Wednesday.

Sisters Morgan and Delaney Keirn needed 13 games each to win at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, while Jackie Werstler blanked Hailey Cearbaugh at No. 3 singles.

Jenna VanCuren and Manon Sonneville won at No. 2 doubles 6-3, 6-0 over Isabelle Kreienbrink and Lydia Morgan.

The Lady Wildcats moved on to today’s semifinal match against Wawasee. On the other side of the bracket Tippecanoe Valley will take on the host Lady Tigers. Both matches begin at 4:30 p.m.



Lady Squires Beat Wabash In Sectional Play


PERU – In a postseason matchup of Three Rivers Conference girls tennis co-champions, Manchester earned a 4-1 win over Wabash in the opening round of the Peru Sectional Wednesday.

All of Manchester’s wins came in straight sets. Sisters Karly and Kelsey Eichenauer won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, and Leah Brandenburg was victorious at No. 3 singles.

Kendra Auler and Lydia Little won at No. 2 doubles. The closest match was at No. 1 doubles, where Wabash’s Alexis Hartley and Jaycee Parrett won 7-6 (8-6), 1-6, 6-3 over Lady Squires Bethany Collette and Lauren Metzger.

Manchester will face Maconaquah in today’s semifinals of the all-TRC team sectional. On the other side of the bracket Southwood won 3-2 over Northfield. The Lady Knights will face host Peru in the other semifinals. Both matches begin at 5:15 p.m.



Squires Down Braves

NORTH MANCHESTER – Kane Gable drove in two runs, and six different Manchester players collected singles in the Squires’ 4-2 Three Rivers Conference win over Maconaquah Wednesday.

Jeremiah Airgood and Noah Beck also drove in runs for the Squires.

Hunter Boughman got the win on the mound, pitching six innings and striking out six. Grant Strobel picked up the save, leaving the tying runs stranded on first and second base.

Now 13-9 overall and finishing 6-3 in the conference, Manchester will host Eastside for a Saturday doubleheader.



Wawasee Comes Back To Beat Concord In Extras

DUNLAP – Wawasee won a see-saw Northern Lakes Conference baseball game 7-6 over host Concord in nine innings Wednesday.

The Warriors led 3-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth, when the Minutemen scored three times. Wawasee scored three runs of its own in the seventh to reclaim the lead, the Concord sent the game into extra innings with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Rylan Kuhn doubled twice, singled, drove in three runs and scored a run for Wawasee. He was also hit by a pitch for the third time in two games. Blaine Greer doubled, singled and drew two walks. Gavin Barker singled and had two RBIs.

Josh Slabaugh picked up the win with 2-1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Wawasee also won the junior varsity game 11-0 over Concord, leveling its record at 10-10.

The Warrior varsity finished NLC play at 6-8 and is 11-14 overall. Wawasee closes out the regular season Saturday with a game against Lakeland in LaGrange.



Tigers Fall To Cavemen

Mishawaka got off the bus hitting, scoring nine runs in the top of the first inning to beat host Warsaw 12-9 in a non-conference baseball game Wednesday.

The Tigers fought back, scoring five runs in the second inning, one in the sixth and three more in the seventh.

Alex Miller had a solo home run for the Tigers. Collin Marshall had a double and drove in two runs. Jared Hawley had three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs, and Matt Francis had a double among his two hits with an RBI.

Warsaw won the junior varsity game 11-4 over the Cavemen. Noah Burgh had a home run, scored twice and drove in four runs. Gage Lyon had two hits, scored twice and had two RBIs. Drake Graham had three hits.

The Tigers play a Northern Lakes Conference game at Elkhart Memorial today.



Lady Vikings Fall

PERU – Tippecanoe Valley was held to a pair of singles in a 10-0, six-inning loss at Peru in Three Rivers Conference softball Wednesday.

The Lady Vikings close out their regular season with a game at Warsaw Friday evening.



Lady ‘Cats Fall In Extras

DENVER – Whitko dropped its last Three Rivers Conference softball game 2-1 in eight innings at North Miami Wednesday.

Ellie Snep singled in Riley Insley for the lone Lady Wildcat run.

The Lady Wildcats finish second in the TRC at 7-2 and are 19-5 overall. They will play a doubleheader at Norwell Saturday to close out the regular season.
