Tiger Golf Rolls To NLC Wins Over Plymouth, Memorial

PLYMOUTH – Led by Sam Yeager’s even-par 36, Warsaw rolled to a pair of dominating Northern Lakes Conference boys golf wins. The Tigers’ team score of 149 easily beat host Plymouth’s 164 and Elkhart Memorial’s 199 at Pretty Lake Golf Course.

Tim Rata was a shot behind Yeager with a 37, and Luke Delp and Luke Johnson were right with them at 38. Tommy Meier was close by with a 41.

The junior varsity match went to Plymouth by a stroke, 181-182 over Warsaw.

The Tigers will play in Saturday’s Culver Academies Invitational at Mystic Hills Golf Club.



Raiders Beat Wawasee

SYRACUSE – Zach Leedy shot a one-over par 37, and was a shot behind Northridge’s Luke Morrison for medalist honors as Wawasee dropped a 161-175 decision to the Raiders in Northern Lakes Conference boys golf Thursday at South Shore Golf Club.

Cameron Brill shot a 43 for Wawasee, overcoming a nine on the third hole. Dillon Drake checked in at 47, Evan Dippon with a 48 and Jared Krugman with a 49 for the Warriors.

In junior varsity play, Wawasee’s Luke Weisser carded a 49, Kobe Jones a 50, Jake Cowan a 59 and Cody Sherman a 60.

Wawasee will play at the Culver Academies Invitational Saturday.



Triton Wins HNAC Title

KNOX – With two individual crowns, Triton defended its Hoosier North Athletic Conference title in girls tennis Thursday.

Kolbie Mason won a three-set match at No. 1 singles, and Hannah Wanemacher and Emma Ross completed an unbeaten conference season with a straight set win for the No. 1 doubles title.

Mason, Wanemacher and Ross were named to the all-conference team.

The Lady Trojans will host South Bend Riley in a non-conference match Monday.



Late Rally Beats Trojans

BOURBON – Winamac’s Jack DeGroot cranked a three-run homer in the top of the seventh, leading the Warriors to a 4-3 Hoosier North Athletic Conference win at Triton Thursday.

Trojan senior Zac Pitney was the tough-luck losing pitcher, allowing just four singles and the home run while striking out seven.

Nate Flenar, Max Slusser and Pitney had two hits each for Triton, which scored all three of its runs in the first inning.

The Trojans (11-4 overall, 8-2 HNAC) will host Pioneer at 11 a.m. Saturday.



Trojans 9th At HNAC Meet

CULVER – Nate Riggins finished third in the pole vault for Triton as the Trojans finished ninth in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference boys track meet Thursday. Winamac was the conference champ with 157.5 points.

Kealon Page, Seth Burkett, Josiah Page and Shaun Honeycutt teamed to finish fifth in the 4x400 relay. Malachi Greene was sixth in the 200 and Rusty Reichard was sixth in the 3,200 for the Trojans.

Triton will compete in the Bremen Sectional track meet on Thursday.



Lady ‘Cats Sweep Peru

SOUTH WHITLEY – Whitko won every match in straight sets to take a 5-0 Three Rivers Conference girls tennis win over visiting Peru Thursday.

Morgan Keirn won at No. 1 singles  and her sister Delaney won at No. 2 singles. Jackie Werstler was victorious at No. 3 singles.

Gracie and Jessica Hook won at No. 1 doubles, and Jenna VanCuren and Manon Sonneville lost just one game in rolling at No. 2 doubles.

Winning for junior varsity were Natalie Iholtz, Blair Creamer, and Kayla Schipper.

The Wildcats are now 5-2 in TRC play and will host Rochester in their final conference match today.



Lady Squires Rally For Win

NORTH MANCHESTER – Visiting Homestead scored four times in the top of the seventh to take a 7-4 lead, but Manchester answered with four runs of its own in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-7 non-conference softball win.

Freshman Ranissa Shambarger scored the game winner on a wild pitch with two outs. She drew an RBI walk earlier in the inning. Cierra Carter had an RBI single in the game-winning rally. Kiera Stacy drove in three runs in the game for Manchester. Brooklyn Howard pitched all seven innings and struck out nine.

Manchester, now 17-2 on the season, travels to Wabash for a Three Rivers Conference game at Northfield Monday.



Valley Rally Falls Short

MARION – After giving up seven runs to host Marion in the second inning, Tippecanoe Valley chipped away but fell short in a 9-7 non-conference softball loss Thursday.

Sydney Howard, Alex Gomez and Mia Gunnels had two hits each for the Lady Vikings, with Taylor Czichilski and Gomez driving in two runs each.

Valley will host Central Noble for a non-conference doubleheader at 10 a.m. Saturday.
