Nisly Stands For Liberty

We just finished the General Assembly session for this year. And for those who are lovers of liberty like I am, it was tough. The General Assembly once again thought it understood our rights better than we did. Luckily for us, we had a defender of liberty in the Indiana House.

Curt Nisly did a fantastic job defending our rights in the General Assembly and he should be highly commended for his actions. There were two serious threats to liberty that I think everyone should be made aware of.

The first law is SEA 322, which allows for your DNA to be collected if you are even arrested for a felony. At first it was upon a felony conviction. Now your DNA is collected by the state upon an arrest for a felony. And if you’re found innocent, getting your DNA removed is not guaranteed. This is a violation of your personal rights and is against the notion of “innocent until proven guilty.” Curt Nisly knew this and voted against it.

The other bill is SEA 309. This bill will limit how much money you can be paid if you produce your own electricity and sell some back to the grid. The bill will actually hurt the production of alternative energy sources and could hurt those who produce technologies like solar panels and wind turbines. Curt Nisly believes that you should get market value for selling your electricity and voted against this legislation.

However, the most telling thing about Curt Nisly’s stand for liberty is that he is not standing with the status quo. I was watching a session online, and Curt Nisly spoke up in support of a resolution about Lyme disease. What was the most telling was that Speaker Bosma did not acknowledge him. Every other legislator who spoke was acknowledged by the Speaker. That is not only a slap in the face of Curt Nisly, that is a slap in your face, whether you voted for him or not.  The Speaker of the Indiana House of Representatives does not care about you.

My guess is that Speaker Bosma has never heard of many of the fine communities that Curt Nisly represents. That tells me that Curt Nisly is doing an outstanding job at representing us and standing up for liberty. I applaud him for looking out for our rights and standing up against the status quo.
