Larry was born June 17, 1941, in Warsaw, to Willis Issac and Margaret Viola Bright Engle. He graduated from Warsaw High School with the class of 1959.
On Sept. 14, 1963, Larry was united in marriage to Betty Huffman in Warsaw. She survives after sharing 53 wonderful years together.
Larry faithfully served his country, entering the United States Army on July 18, 1966. He served in Vietnam in the Signal Corps as a specialist 5th class. On July 17, 1968, he was honorably discharged.
Having spent all his lifetime in Warsaw, Larry was employed as a lieutenant for the Warsaw Police Department for 30 years before his retirement in 2006. Afterward, Larry became the owner of Engle Electronics for 10 years.
He was a member of First Brethren Church. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and also served on the advisory board for the police pension. He volunteered for the Historical Society and was a member of KEMRAD. He especially loved watching his grandchildren and spending time with his family.
Those who survive Larry include his wife, Betty; two daughters, Cindy (Mark) Shirey, Warsaw, and Christina (Todd) Doberstein, Warsaw; four grandchildren: Taylor Stiver, Tanner Stiver, Emily Doberstein and Abigail Doberstein; and a sister, Shirley Fidler, North Webster.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Michael K. Engle and Richard E. Engle.
The family will receive friends to share memories and for a time of visitation from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, May 11, in Titus Funeral Home, 2000 Sheridan St., Warsaw.
A funeral service celebrating Larry’s life will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, May 12, in the funeral home. Pastor Dave Hummel will officiate the service, with burial to follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Graveside military honors will be conducted by members of North Webster American Legion Post 253.
