LEESBURG – The town council moved interim street commissioner Craig Charlton to a full-time position at Monday’s town board meeting.

Larry Richey, board member, said the change will help them be more flexible with the hours.

“If we need him for 20 hours one week and 45 hours the next week, we can do that,”  Richey said.

Charlton also presented a monthly report to the board. He outlined several concerns he had with residents and picking up storm damage.

One concern was that people were not bringing their trash cans in Monday morning after Friday trash pickup. He also mentioned people placing large household items for disposal on the tree lawn, vehicles without tags outside a building and fenced-in areas and grass being blown into the streets when a yard is mowed.

Charlton said he wasn’t sure what the town could do as far as penalties, but he is issuing yellow tags for people who violate the rules.

Richey said the board would review the town ordinances to see if these actions violated code.

Board member Tom Moore said the town needs to start giving fines for violators.

In other business, the town board:

• Heard an update on Leesburg’s ongoing sewer issue. The town has replaced three pumps and will look into getting a variable rate pump system, so they can pump it is as needed.

• Is making early plans to make the town hall compatible with the American With Disabilities Act. Currently, board meetings are held in the Plain Township fire building due to the lack of accessibility. There is no timetable for the upgrade.
