8-Run Fifth Inning Pushes Lady Tigers To NLC Win
Warsaw’s offense exploded for eight runs in the fifth inning, propeling the Lady Tigers to an 11-5 Northern Lakes Conference softball win over visiting Plymouth Monday.
Sophomore Courtney Chookie had four hits and drove in three runs for the Lady Tigers. Lauren Shaffner doubled and singled in the game and had two RBIs, and Morgan Ashtari had a double, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs. Isabelle Dittmar had two singles and scored twice.
In the circle, Chookie went the distance, allowing three earned runs while walking three and striking out four.
The Lady Tigers continue conference play Wednesday at NorthWood.
Tigers Rally Late For Win
PLYMOUTH – Warsaw took advantage of pair of Plymouth errors to rally for three runs in the seventh inning and a 3-2 Northern Lakes Conference baseball win over the host Pilgrims Monday.
Plymouth’s Cam Dennie held Warsaw to one single through six innings. Alex Baker singled and scored in the seventh, and Braxton Tennant walked and scored the game-tying run. Luke Baker singled and scored the go-ahead run on an error. Jordan Jones was the winning pitcher, scattering seven hits over seven innings.
In the junior varsity game, Warsaw took a 15-5 win over Plymouth. Matt Shoemaker had three hits and drove in two runs. Noah Burgh, Gage Lyon and Aric Krallman added two hits and two RBIs each.
The Tiger varsity improved to 6-12 overall and 3-7 in the NLC. They will host NorthWood in a conference game Wednesday.
Lady Tigers Roll
GOSHEN – Warsaw’s girls tennis team dropped just seven games in 10 sets, rolling to an easy 5-0 win over host Goshen in Northern Lakes Conference play Monday.
Athena Schlitt and Collette Smith recorded a shutout at No. 1 doubles for the Lady Tigers. Ella Knight lost one game at No. 2 singles, as did the No. 2 doubles duo of Amy Herendeen and Rachel Boyle.
Liza Lewis won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Alyssa Zellers won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
The Lady Tiger junior varsity won eight of nine matches played. Winners were Mattie Ray, Izzy Ray, Raegan Merchant and Addison Marshall in singles play, and the doubles teams of Rachel Yeager and Sophia Schlitt, Jasmine Baker and Sophia Parke, Emma Hoff and Sophie Olson, and Katrielle Rodgers and Charlotte Grandon.
The varsity team opens play in the Northern Lakes Conference Tournament Wednesday. The tourney has been moved from Plymouth and Concord to Warsaw due to construction at the other two sites.
Valley Golf Edges Whitko
ROCHESTER – Host Tippecanoe Valley earned a 183-184 boys golf win over Three Rivers Conference foe Whitko Monday at Round Bard Golf Club.
Valley freshman Cade Brouyette was the match medalist with a score of 40. Four Viking seniors played their last home match; Jeremy Julian had a 40, John Young a 49, Noah Hoffman a 51 and Chris Schipper a 56.
Senior Tim Gensch led Whitko with a 41. Cade Bechtold and Kaleb Busz each shot 43 and Cole Cmar a 57.
Bryston Canada had a 57 for the Valley junior varsity. Wyatt Hall had a 67, Bryce Madeford a 78 and Billy Gillman a 78.
Next up for Valley is the Three Rivers Conference Tournament at Rozella Ford on Saturday. Whitko will play at Wabash Thursday.
Manchester Downs Valley
NORTH MANCHESTER – Tippecanoe Valley’s Aerin Shewman won over freshman Rebekah Pyle at No. 1 singles, but Manchester won the remaining matches for a 4-1 Three Rivers Conference girls tennis win Monday.
Kelsey Eichenauer and Bethany Collette won in straight sets at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Juniors Lauren Metzger and Lotte van der Ven won at No. 1 doubles, as did Kendra Auler and Elizabeth Anguilm at No. 2 doubles.
Manchester won all four junior varsity matches as well.
The Lady Squires will host Peru in conference play Wednesday. Valley will play a non-conference match at Bethany Christian today.
Lady Warrior Softball Blanks NorthWood
NAPPANEE – Wawasee scored five runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to a 12-0 Northern Lakes Conference softball win at NorthWood Monday.
Kayla White had a double among her four hits, scoring four runs and driving in three. Meghan Fretz had two hits and three RBIs, Amber Lemberg doubled and singled and Graceanne Kerlin had two hits and drove in a pair of runs.
Lemberg pitched all seven innings, striking out seven and walking none while allowing three singles.
The junior varsity game went Wawasee’s way, 17-3 over NorthWood. Megan Bray had two hits, scored three runs and drove in a run. Bethany Flannery tripled and had three stolen bases.
The Lady Warrior varsity improved to 10-0 in the NLC, 17-3 overall, and can clinch a share of the conference title with a win over visiting Northridge Wednesday.
Panthers Shut Out Warriors
SYRACUSE – Jeremiah Bess and Gavin Barker had two hits each, but Wawasee had only two more hits as a team in a 10-0 Northern Lakes Conference baseball loss to visiting NorthWood Monday.
The Panthers scored in every inning but the third. Carter Woody pitched four innings for Wawasee, taking the loss despite not allowing an earned run and giving up just three hits.
Wawasee’s junior varsity picked up a 14-4 win over the Panthers.
On Wednesday Wawasee (8-10 overall, 4-5 NLC) travels to Northridge. The teams will complete a suspended game (tied at 6 after nine innings) before playing the scheduled game.
Warrior Golf Falls
LEESBURG – Visiting LaVille beat Wawasee 175-186 in a non-conference boys golf match at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club Monday.
Zach Leedy and Dillon Drake posted 43s for the Warriors. Cameron Brill and Evan Dippon each shot 50 and Luke Weisser had a 52.
Wawasee will play Goshen and host Warsaw at Stonehenge in Northern Lakes Conference play today.

SYRACUSE – Wawasee closed out its girls tennis regular season with a 5-0 Northern Lakes Conference loss to Plymouth Monday.
The Lady Warriors will play in the NLC Tournament beginning Wednesday.

WABASH – Kennedy Krull and Andrea Snavely had three hits each for visiting Whitko in its 18-1, six-inning Three Rivers Conference softball win at Wabash Monday.
The Lady Wildcats scored seven runs in the first two innings, then exploded for nine in the sixth to bring the run-rule into effect.
Whitko will play a conference game at Rochester Wednesday.

SOUTH WHITLEY – Whitko won all its varsity matches in straight sets to take a 5-0 win over visiting Fort Wayne Wayne in non-conference girls tennis Monday.
Sisters Morgan and Delaney Keirn won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. Jackie Werstler won at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-4. Jessica and Gracie Hook won at No. 1 doubles 6-2, 6-0 and Jenna VanCuren and Manon Sonneville won at No. 2 doubles 6-3, 6-4.
The Lady Wildcats close out Three Rivers Conference play Thursday, hosting Peru.
Wildcat Baseball Splits
WABASH – Whitko split a baseball doubleheader with Wabash monday, taking the opener (which counted in the Three Rivers Conference standings) 9-3 before the Apaches walked off with a 10-9 win in the nightcap.
Alex Robbins was the inning pitcher for Whitko in Game 1, allowing three hits and striking out three. Robbins, Zach Hewitt and Drew Bradford doubled in the game. Hewitt and Alex Bechtold drove in three runs each.
Landen Goff had three hits in the second game, including two doubles, and scored three times.
Whitko improved to 17-4 overall, and 4-2 in the TRC. It closes out the home portion of its schedule with a non-conference game against Triton today.
Lady Trojans Whip Caston
BOURBON – Taytum Hargrave and Nicole Sechrist had three hits and scored three times each, and combined for six RBIs in Triton’s 14-0, five-inning Hoosier North Athletic Conference softball win over Culver Community Monday.
Courtney Jennings needed just 68 pitches to get the win in the circle, striking out nine, walking one and allowing two hits.
Triton hosts HNAC foe North Judson today.
Bremen Doubles Up Triton
BOURBON – Zac Pitney had three doubles and a single for Triton in its 8-4 non-conference baseball loss to visiting Bremen Monday.
Keygan Moiser had two hits and drove in two runs for the Trojans.
Triton travels to South Whitley today for a non-conference game against Whitko.
