Triton Wins Team Title; Brouyette Medalist At LaVille

PLYMOUTH – Tippecanoe Valley’s Cade Brouyette was the medalist and Triton won the team title in the LaVille Invitational boys golf tournament Saturday at Plymouth Rock Golf Club. The Vikings were third, three shots behind second-place Rochester.

Brouyette’s 81 edged Michael Butler of LaVille by two shots. Jeremy Julian had an 88 for the Vikings, followed by Chris Schipper at 98, John Young at 100 and Noah Hoffman at 114.

Triton used balance to secure the team championship, with all of its players in the 80s. Beau Hepler and Bryce Swihart had 83s for the Trojans, with Spencer Johnson posting an 84, Isaac Wall an 86 and Braden Kreft an 89.

The Trojans will play in the Uebele at Beechwood on Friday. The Vikings will host Whitko at Round Barn Golf Course in Rochester today.



Valley Routs Dragons

ARGOS – Tippecanoe Valley’s baseball team was consistent Saturday, scoring in every inning  and capped with a seven-run seventh inning in a 21-5 non-conference rout of Argos.

Alec Craig, Tucker Shull, Tanner Trippiedi and Jack Utter had multiple-hit games for the Vikings. Valley starting pitcher Ethan Yates went the distance, allowing eight hits and four earned runs.

Valley will host Manchester in a Three Rivers Conference game today.



Squires 2nd At Cole Memorial Invitational

WABASH – Led by medalist Harley Kruschwitz, Manchester finished second to host Northfield in the Cole Memorial Invitational golf tournament Saturday.

Kruschwitz posted a 4-over par 75 at Honeywell Golf Club in Wabash. Nathan Self had an 85 with Parker Wagoner and Konrad Borgmann each shooting 89s and leaving the Squires at 338, four shots behind Northfield.

Whitko was 10th in the tournament, paced by Caleb Busz’s 85.

Manchester returns to Honeywell to take on Three Rivers Conference foes Rochester and host Southwood on Wednesday. Whitko will travel to Round Barn Golf Course in Rochester to take on Tippecanoe Valley today.

Lady Squire Softball Splits In Garrett Tournament


GARRETT – Manchester’s softball team split a pair of games in the Garrett Invitational Saturday, falling 6-3 to Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger and beating the host Lady Railroaders 7-0.

The Lady Squires were held to five hits in the first game. Mattie McKee struck out five hitters in her 5-2/3 innings of work, and Brooklyn Howard struck out two in 1-1/3 innings.

Howard then struck out 10 Garrett hitters in the consolation game and collected two hits and two RBIs at the plate. Emma West had three hits, and Cierra Carter drove in  a pair of runs.

Now 14-2 overall, Manchester will  play at Tippecanoe Valley in a Three Rivers Conference game today.



Manchester Falls In Baseball Doubleheader

DEKALB – Manchester struggled to put the ball in play Saturday, striking out 15 times in the first game and 19 overall, in losing to DeKalb 7-0 and 11-2 in a non-conference baseball doubleheader.

David McAtee had two hits for the Squires in the first game, and Mason Meyer had two in the second game.

The Squires (9-6) travel to Tippecanoe Valley for a game today.



Whitko Sweeps Twinbill

SOUTH WHITLEY – Whitko swept a baseball doubleheader from Southern Wells Saturday, taking the first game 16-2 and the second one 13-3, both in six innings.

The non-conference games were moved to Whitko due to wet grounds at Southern Wells, but the Wildcats played as the visitors.

In the opener Zach Morris gave up a pair of runs in the first inning, but nothing the rest of the way. He scattered seven hits in five innings of work, striking out four and was the winning pitcher.

Zach Hewitt singled twice, scored twice and drove in three runs. Colin Craig had two hits and scored twice, and Austin Hollowell had a pair of hits and two RBIs.

Hollowell was the winning pitcher in the second game, striking out six in five innings of work. Drew Bradford and Alex Bechtold had three hits  and scored twice each for Whitko, which had 22 hits in the twinbill, none for extra bases.

Whitko improved to 16-3 overall and will travel to Wabash for a doubleheader today. The first game will be a Three Rivers Conference contest, the second a non-conference matchup.



Lady ‘Cats 5th In Tourney

ANGOLA – Highlighted by Jackie Werstler’s third-place finish, Whitko’s girls tennis team finished fifth at the Angola Invitational Saturday.

Sisters Morgan and Delaney Keirn finished fourth at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively, for the Lady Wildcats.

Whitko begins a stretch of five matches in five days with a non-conference contest with visiting Fort Wayne Wayne today.



Whitko Fourth At Concord’s Kelly Relays

DUNLAP – Whitko won three events and finished fourth in the team standings at Concord’s Kelly Relays boys track meet Friday night.

The all-relays format had the Wildcats winning the discus with throws totaling 374-6. Gavin Howard had a throw of 141-8, Conner Sherwin 133-2 and Matt Farner 99-8.

Whitko also won the long jump at 58-4 (Garrett Elder 20-2, Alex Wilson 20-2, Chase Meade 180) and the  sprint medley relay: team of Elder, Meade, Alex Wilson and Shad Ebbinghouse won in 1:39.16.

The Wildcats begin their postseason at the Three Rivers Conference Meet Tuesday on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion.



Warriors Fall At Concordia

FORT WAYNE – Cayden Wegener gave up three hits in six innings, but was the tough-luck losing pitcher for Wawasee in its 4-3 baseball loss at Fort Wayne Concordia Saturday.

Spencer Prescott singled, walked twice and stole a base for the Warriors. Jeremiah Bess singled, walked and scored twice, and Rhett Coblentz singled, walked and drove in a run.

Now 8-9 overall, Wawasee will host NorthWood today.



Lady Warriors Fourth At Goshen Relays

GOSHEN – Wawasee’s girls track team placed fourth in Class A at Saturday’s Goshen Relays.

The Lady Warrior distance relay team of Kenzie Smith, Caitlin Wortinger, Hannah-Marie Lamle and Elizabeth Zorn was second in 13:35.03. Lamle was second overall in the long jump and Jada Parzygnot tied for second in the pole vault.

Wawasee will open its postseason Tuesday at the Northern Lakes Conference Meet Tuesday at Warsaw’s Fisher Field.



Wawasee Golfers 12th At Concord Invitational

ELKHART – Wawasee’s boys golf team finished 12th in the 15-team Concord Invitational at Bent Oak Golf Club Saturday. NorthWood was the team champion at 333, while the Warriors had a 404 team score, a shot behind Elkhart Central.

Evan Dippon led Wawasee with a 91, followed by Dillon Drake’s 97. Cameron Brill posted a score of 102, Jared Krugman a 114 and Kobe Jones a 124.

Wawasee will host LaVille at Tippecanoe Lake Country Club today.



Wawasee SB Cancelled

BUTLER – Wawasee couldn’t play in the Eastside Invitational softball tournament Saturday due to unplayable field conditions from recent rain.

Wawasee will play at NorthWood in a Northern Lakes Conference game today.
