Woman Accused Of Stealing Grandparents' Money

SYRACUSE – A Syracuse woman faces two felony charges after police allege she  stole more than $39,000 from her grandparents to buy drugs.

Stephanie Orten, 34, of 902 N. Huntington St., was arrested Thursday on a warrant for theft, fraud and failure to appear that was issued in February.

Police say Orten’s grandparents, who are in poor health, gave Orten their debit cards so she  could buy groceries for them.

Police allege Orten withdrew $19,100.75 from an ATM and additionally made $20,000 worth of purchases for herself.

Orten told police she used the card to support her $300- to-$400-a-day drug habit, charging documents state.

Orten is being held in Kosciusko County Jail on a $45,000 bond.
