Brett Boggs told the Lisa Anne Boggs-Fawley Memorial Scholarship story, Stephanie Bibler spoke about the Scott “Bibs” Bibler Scholarship and Bibs Memorial Fund stories, and Rita Price-Simpson talked about the Mentone Community Fund.
Brett Boggs is the brother of Lisa Anne Boggs-Fawley and Stephanie Boggs is the widow of Scott Bibler. There were many pauses to control emotions during their presentations, both still sensitive to their loss and undying admiration for a courageous sister who overcame all odds and a popular teacher, coach and beloved husband.
Boggs-Fawley and Bibler were teachers at Tippecanoe Valley High School.
Boggs-Fawley was born with a birth defect in which her left arm ended just below her elbow. Brett Boggs talked about how his sister found a way to do everything for herself, by herself. She was a physical education teacher at TVHS and coached gymnastics, track and archery. She died in June 2014.
The fund honoring her name has been established for TVHS graduates.
Stephanie Bibler said she was reluctant to address the group of 150 captivated guests, praying for a theme for her to talk about. The next day and for days afterward, the word “community” kept coming to mind.
Scott Bibler taught and coached football players at TVHS. He died in October 2015 when the small plane he was riding in crashed in South Carolina on the way to a Clemson–Notre Dame football game. Three other men also died in the crash: Charlie Smith and his son, Scott, and Tony Elliott, leaving gaping holes of grief in the fabric of the community. The SmithStrong Foundation Fund was established by Michelle LeDrew Smith and Ryan Smith in memory of their father and brother. It also supports Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation’s athletes and athletic program.
Stephanie talked about how she had the funds for one scholarship. Just $6,000 short of an endowment for a second scholarship, she and her daughters, Chelsea and Megan, started the Sassy Sweet Golf Tournament. More than $19,000 was raised. Now, she’s a few thousand dollars short of a third $1,000 scholarship for TVHS athletes who plan to pursue a degree in education.
The Bibs Fund provides educational, cultural or musical activities for needy children or helps them access counseling.
Rita Price-Simpson is no stranger to raising money. She secured sponsorships for her WRSW broadcast variety shows starting in 1957, when she was a high school junior. One sponsorship led to other funded shows. It was an easy step for her to help raise money for the Mentone Community Fund, which will help make things better in her cherished small town.
