By Staff Report-
In football’s Class 6A Sectional 2, Warsaw joins Penn, Chesterton and Valparaiso.
In 4A Sectional 4 for basketball, the IHSAA moved Penn back to a South Bend-based group, and added Plymouth to the seven-team schedule. With the change, there will be six Northern Lakes Conference teams in Sectional 4 for basketball. The volleyball Sectional 4 does not include Plymouth in its six-team field.
The other notable change involving Times-Union area schools is in Class 2A, as Manchester and Whitko will play football and volleyball in the same sectional. Neither school moved for boys or girls basketball.
A third class was added to soccer, and Warsaw moved into the new 3A Sectional 7 with Huntington North, Homestead and three Fort Wayne city schools: North, South and Wayne. The Lady Tigers play in Sectional 7 with South, Wayne, Huntington North and Homestead.
Wawasee’s boys soccer team stays in Class 2A, and joins Angola, Garrett, Lakeland, NorthWood and West Noble in Sectional 20. The Lady Warriors’ sectional is the same as the boy, but without Garrett and with DeKalb.
The Manchester boys and Tippecanoe Valley co-ed soccer teams moved up to 2A Sectional 22 with Columbia City, Fort Wayne Concordia, Maconaquah and Peru. The Lady Squires will stay in Class 1A for soccer.
Whitko stays in Class 1A for boys and girls soccer. Lakeland Christian remains a 1A school for all sports.
Three committees consisting of school administrators representing each IHSAA district and class were constructed to realign the sports. The football committee totaled 18 administrators, the basketball and volleyball committee was made up of 12 members and the soccer committee consisted of nine individuals.
The baseball and softball realignment committee will meet this summer after both state tournaments conclude in June with their sectional recommendations being presented to the Executive Committee for approval at its August meeting.
