AKRON – Kirk Robinson of Akron was named 2017 Boys Basketball Official of the Year by the IHSAA this week.
A veteran of 35 years officiating, Robinson has worked 24 sectional tournaments, 16 regionals, five semistates and three state championship title games in his career.
He was also the 2012 Girls Basketball and 2005 Volleyball Official of the Year.
Robinson has also worked 27 girls basketball sectionals, 19 regionals, 11 semistates and five title games. With the 60 volleyball postseason tournaments, including eight state title matches, Robinson has worked 170 IHSAA postseason tournaments. He is retiring from all sports following this season.
The award is voted on by members of the Indiana High School Officials Leadership Association, comprised of presidents and secretaries of the 24 officials associations in the state.
Robinson will be presented the award before the Saturday’s 4A boys state championship game at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
