MENTONE – A Mentone man was arrested 13 minutes after police allege he robbed a bank at gunpoint.
Bernie Joe Montileaux, 31, of 211 N. Tucker St., is facing one felony charge of robbery with a deadly weapon.
At about 11:09 a.m. Wednesday, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department responded to a hold-up alarm at the Lake City Bank on Ind. 25, according to a news release from the KCSD.
Police believe Montileaux robbed the bank at gunpoint then fled on foot.
Police did not say how much money had been taken from the bank.
Police were able to apprehend Montileaux at his Tucker Street home at gunpoint without incident. The money was recovered, the release states.
Montileaux was taken to the Kosciusko County Jail where he is being held on a prosecutorial hold, without bond.
KCSD detectives said “concerned citizens were imperative in facilitating the arrest today,” the release states.
Montileaux has criminal history including two prior convictions for theft. He pleaded guilty to battery on a public safety official Feb. 11, 2016, in connection with stirking a nurse at Kosciusko Community Hospital.
